sansanaba Posted October 2, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted October 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just purchased a used Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH from the NYC Leica Store. I got it for a really good deal, basically $1000 off. For some reason it seems to be a bit greasy. Also the glass looked like it had a smudge and I used my lens pen to clean it. It then greased up the front element. What should I do? Return, or just clean? If clean what do you guys recommend.

younes Posted October 2, 2014 Share #3  Posted October 2, 2014 Hello,  What has been working fine for me for years: a) use an air blower to get rid of eventual dust and other particles spray a small quantity of Zeiss Lens Cleaning fluid on a clean and good quality microfiber cleaning cloth c) very gently wipe the lens surface d) repeat and c) with another clean part of the cloth  Never: - apply pressure when wiping the lens surface - spray the cleaning fluid directly on the lens  Hope this helps.  Younes

Premoistened tissue in foil packets or spray with cloth included. Either work. B&H also sells it. My local optometrist sells a similar product. My local optometrist sells a similar product.  So, what are these "premoistened" tissues moistened with? And just what is it that sprays from the "spray with cloth" product?  Could it possibly be "liquid?" ;-)  I have found that saliva and good old lens cleaning tissue works great. And my tongue never scratches the lens coatings, which proves I'm not a cat. ;-)
jdlaing Posted October 2, 2014 Share #7 Â Posted October 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) And the reason is ... Â Because it can work its way down around the lens elements and into the lens and frig up the lubricants. Â Put it on the tissue or cloth first. And my tongue never scratches the lens coatings, which proves I'm not a cat. ;-) You've made me have to wipe coffee off my screen, John. And I'm still inwardly giggling a little at the mental image of someone studiously licking the front element with a look of total concentration on their face and oblivious of the slack-jawed expressions of passers-by.  Pete. algrove Posted October 13, 2014 Share #14 Â Posted October 13, 2014 Anyone know the difference between the Zeiss "Lens Cleaning Wipe" and the "Lens Wipes"? They market 2 different items. Â Walmart, believe it or not, is a supplier of Zeiss as well as Nikon lenses for eyeglasses.
