I must have missed this but anyone know when this model was announced?

Got an email from the Norwegian importer this afternoon. The Leica M-P is here. Specifications:

- Sapphire screen

- New frame selector (projecting the correct view in the finder)

- 2 Gb buffer (vs 1 Gb in M(240)

- No red dot

Have I missed anything?

Cheers, HP

Matching rear dial and scroll wheel too.:D Details here. The only thing slightly unexpected about this announcement is that Leica didn't bother waiting until Photokina.

I wonder who will brave enough to admit to selling their M and buying this 'new' version?

I'm probably going to regret saying this, but I can't see how they wouldn't offer an upgrade.

It is quite possible you'd have to change the entire circuit board. Then the upgrade would be forbiddingly expensive.

I doubt very much that an upgrade of the buffer of an original M would be practicable without a whole board replacement. (I would have thought that the chip would be soldered in, and quite possibly surface mounted.) It would be cheaper to flog the M and buy an M-P.
