Ryan, what do you think of the Nokton 35/1.2 (v2?) on the A7 and now the M240? And do you like it more on the M240 than on the A7?

Hi,

At this point it is hard to give a definitive answer, although it works well on both cameras it has a slight edge on the m240. It is a little sharper wide open and has less vignetting. That maybe in part to the 6bit coding I am using as well as the limitations of the a7r sensor. Stopped down the lens is bitingly sharp on the a7, equally so on the M.

One common complaint about the Nokton is the size. Honestly, after shooting the Zeiss 35/1.4 ZE for several years this thing is tiny even on the m240.

At some point I would like to compare it to the 35FLE but that's not going to happen for a while.

Cheers.

Ryan

I have the Lux 50. Bought a mint 9 month old one at a very good price and, despite 50mm being a FL I've not been in the habit of using or indeed even owning in the past, it's now probably the lens I use most and I love it. I'd have to say I do rather lust after the APO, however, at that price I fear it'll have to remain a pipe dream. :( .

You can't go wrong with either the cron or the lux so you just have to decide which rendering you like better. The cron is a stop slower and it won't be as sharp as the lux asph. The lux will also have a considerable more pop while the cron will render more like a classic Mandler. If you're getting a noctilux in the future I would recommend settling with the cron for now as its far cheaper than the lux. Here's a little test I did with some 50mm lenses so you can get an idea of the different rendering style. I won't say which is which but it'll be quite obvious for some of the readers, the lenses in the pool are cron v4/v5, DR, lux asph, 5cm summarit and 1.0 nocti.

To me, for the $ and performance, 'cron 50 v. IV is amazing. I flipped both the lux & the nocti as unbearably heavy with unusably tight DOF tolerances - thus no point to either as practical street shooters (tripod / studio excepted).

For all day, you can't beat the Elmar 2.8 collapsible - to me 'the' Leica shooting experience (or a short 35/40).

Thanks again!

At this point, I have been quite happy with the CV 50/1.5 Nokton I have been using, I just like the rendering of the Leica lenses a bit more. I keep looking at pictures, and it will be the 50 ASPH Summilux I have decided......once I recharge the bank card a bit!

Thanks All!

Ryan
