Robinyuill Posted July 21, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there. Quick question. I have a 24mm f2.8 Asph Elmarit-M at the moment and I'm thinking of changing it for something slightly wider. I've got a 21mm f2.8 Elmarit M(1995) and have searched for reviews which are a bit vague on how good or otherwise it is. I've still to really try it out but it seems ok on my M9. Anyone with experience of it, feel free to chip in with a view. Regards, Robin.

algrove Posted July 21, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 21, 2014 Check out Overgaard's site as he has or has had this lens if I recall. The heck with reviews, what do you like or dislike about the files it produces?
sblutter Posted July 21, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 21, 2014 (Oops the 'thanks') Go shoot a ton with it in various conditions. You've got it, use it. I bet its fine I have a Zeiss 21, its great but doesn't fit what I'm currently working on - so it sits I have many lenses from even before the '90's all very usable. Optical design has improved (ASPH) but not all that much
lct Posted July 22, 2014 Share #4 Posted July 22, 2014 The Elmarit-M 21/2.8 you're referring to is a pre-asph version # 11134. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/21mm_f/2.8_Elmarit_M It is a sharp lens in the center but rather soft in the corners with some significant CA and mustache shape distortion. I prefer the Elmarit 21/2.8 asph, the current Super-Elmar 21/3.4 or even the tiny Skopar 21/4 personally but it's just me and the pre-asph Elmarit is a favorite lens for much better photographers of this forum like Andy Piper (adan) if i remember well. I can vouch for the Super-Elmar 21/3.4 ASPH - it's contrasty, crisp and hellishly sharp. I highly endose this little lens.
wda Posted July 22, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 22, 2014 I have the later Aspheric version of your 21mm lens and I rate it one of my very best lenses. However, a 21mm lens does need extra framing care.

tobey bilek Posted July 23, 2014 Share #9 Posted July 23, 2014 Current Elmar if you do not need 1.4 in which case you buy the `lux. I find my 21 and 28 Mandler lenses from 1986, satisfactory for my uses, but they do have some faults. To do again today, I would get a 24 3.8.
