Uluru - The Climb

As Uluru is an Aboriginal sacred site the traditional owners prefer if it is not climbed, but climbing is not yet forbidden. I climbed it 25 years ago when no-one was aware of any such cultural sensitivity. I did NOT climb it this time.

Once the number of climbers drops below 20% of visitors to Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park who had planned on climbing, the climb will be closed. This is expected within the next few years with dwindling numbers doing so, about 23% at this time. Furthermore it is closed for safety reasons about 50% of the time and the climb is dangerous.

The photographs here are not culturally insensitive.

It's so interesting to see photographs of Uluru in b&w instead of the usual (slightly done to death) colour.

Seems as though you had a wonderful trip, I certainly envy you the helicopter ride!
