Avatar Posted July 22, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted July 22, 2014 Lovely lines in the background. But, to be frank and please don't take offense, i'm not a huge fan of this type of subject no offense taken and thanks for commenting. curious on what you mean not being of fan of? do you mean homeless or photographing homeless (if he is)? I really like your work A Miller and am sure we will meet on the street! (By the way, that's a picture of my father. I guess you know him!)
A miller Posted July 22, 2014 Share #9 Posted July 22, 2014 Hi Avatar - Yes, i was expressing my personal opinion that i am not a big fan of photos whose main subjects are impoverised with expressions that reflect that they are not in agreement with being photographed. This may not at all what was the case here; but this was my instinctive interpretation. To be clear, i am not trying to convince you not to do this, or that you shouldnt post images like this on the forum. You are perfectly free to do whatever you wish, of course. It is certainly not my place nor my right to pass judgment here. And it seems as if i am talking past you on this one as you were not even intending to shoot a subject of this nature. Even if this is your father, due to his rather compromising position of sitting crouched on the filthy street floor, the gritty nature of the processing of the image, and, most significantly, what appears to me to be a look of disapproval on his face, he being rendered in a manner that is reflective of an impoverished street resident. It is perfectly fine if this picture has special meaning to you, and i by no means am trying to influence what you shoot, or God-forbid Intending anything derogatory towards your father. I am merely noting that the image doesnt draw any interest from me. Having said all of this, i love looking at your photos and particularly liked the ones from the pro-modern civilization rally in Times Square, which i sorely missed b/c i have been out of town. I'd love to hook up and shoot together one of these days. All the best, Adam
Avatar Posted July 23, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted July 23, 2014 Ah, I wasn't sure what you meant and I take no offense and neither does my father. But this man was grimacing because he knew I was missing focus. I don't take offense and rarely get into discussions of what some believe is ok or not to shoot. The rally was packed in Times Square Sunday but it was a very well behaved and orderly crowd..quite a feat by NYPD and I thanked some police as many people did. I was pleasantly surprised to see that. Here's some of the images I made into a slideshow.
