jmr237 Posted July 16, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted July 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone received a new MP or M7 that says "Leica Camera Wetzlar" instead of the usual "Leica Camera Made in Germany"? Â Apparently some digital M models have the new script. Â Story here.
Advertisement Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Hi jmr237, Take a look here "Leica Camera Wetzlar" on new MP and M7?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Leica Fanatic Posted July 16, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted July 16, 2014 Great piece of marketing that costs next to nothing. Â Historically link a current product to an historical product. Â Kerrrching (or should that be beep)?

wattsy Posted July 16, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted July 16, 2014 I've been needing this upgrade, thank you Leica........ Â Yes, I think I might sell my Leica bodies and upgrade to the new Wetzlar branded bodies. Â That said, before I do, I might check whether the boxes have been changed too (and, of course, the plastic bags and stuff that goes inside). andybarton Posted July 16, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted July 16, 2014 At least in future there will be an indication of how old the body is, i.e. pre/post Wetzlar. Â There will be a collector somewhere looking for the lowest SN on a Wetzlar body...

250swb Posted July 16, 2014 Share #12  Posted July 16, 2014 I wouldn't trust you lot to choose future antiques and collectibles. So far, give or take Wetzlar 76 years production, Solms 28 years production. So Solms camera's are much rarer! It's time to lay a few down in unopened boxes for the Solms 50th in 2036.   Steve

philipus Posted July 16, 2014 Share #14  Posted July 16, 2014 In February last year, I emailed Leica CS and asked whether, after the move to Wetzlar, the top plates on the à la carte MPs and M7 would have Wetzlar on the top plate like old film Ms. The answer was that no, "Leica camera AG, Germany" would remain on the top plate.  Based on information then available CS expected that it would, however, be possible against a fee to have the top plate engraving changed to Wetzlar, but also noted it would be best to check once they've moved. I have not since verified this since I have no plans to buy a new MP or M7.  philip
semi-ambivalent Posted July 23, 2014 Share #15 Â Posted July 23, 2014 Create new categories = increased desirability and price? Â That's the nature of collecting. Best to keep it separate from photography. Â s-a
luigi bertolotti Posted July 25, 2014 Share #16 Â Posted July 25, 2014 ... Based on information then available CS expected that it would, however, be possible against a fee to have the top plate engraving changed to Wetzlar.... Â Given that , for a fee, they can engrave your name on the top plate, I think they could also engrave "Wetzlar" (*) ; but of course this would be much different than having an ORIGINAL engraving... Â (*) this makes me to wonder if some hardcore Leica lover has ever thought to give names like "Leica" "Wetzlar" "Barnack" to daughters or sons.... a frend of mine (mountain passionate like me) has given the name of three peaks as 2nd name of his 3 daughters... philipus Posted July 25, 2014 Share #17  Posted July 25, 2014 That's a nice way to commemorate a peak  Well almost everything seems to be possible when it comes to Leica, against a fee. But I did find it interesting that Leica would stick with "Germany" as the default now that they've returned to their home.
Leica Fanatic Posted July 25, 2014 Share #18 Â Posted July 25, 2014 I recall a press conference with John Bloor, the tycoon builder who ressurected Triumph Motorcycles. Â He said that the name 'Triumph' (which was all that was left and all that he'd bought) wasn't important in his plans, only that Britain was making motorcycles again, to which a reporter asked, "then why not call it Bloor Motorcycles"? Â Deathly silence.
Jennifer Posted July 25, 2014 Share #19 Â Posted July 25, 2014 For the real retro look surely they should resurrect a top plate engraved - Leica - D.R.P. Ernst Leitz GmbH Wetzlar ?
