Liveview Image from EVF2 degrades to noise

Hi,

I'm travelling in Japan, and when working with the M240 and the EVF2 I am encountering something strange: the image turns to pure noise, in the form of black and white parallel fine lines, sort of a grid, which move.

I must say it's very hot and humid, so first I thought a reason for this could be overheating of the EVF2. Later, when the anomaly happened with more frequency (humidity was even greater), I thought a false contact because of humidity could be the explanation.

But today, after being for a while in an air conditioned interior, the same misbehavior appeared.

In any case, switching to the LCD on the camera gives again a normal liveview image.

Seems to be an erratic phenomenon, related with a false contact, either in the interior of the EVF2, or between it and the camera. What do you think?

I'm now in Kyoto, and tomorrow will try to find an Olympus finder, to check if the contacts are faulty.

The problem is, the optical VF is wrong, and I depend on the EVF2 for focusing. I deeply dislike working with the LCD on the camera's back. On the other side, I am using mostly the 21 mm, so focusing is not that much of an issue. And I have also the MM...

Two more questions:

Has somebody experienced the same?

What camera store in Kyoto would you advice?

Thank you very much for your help!

Cheers,

Manolo

I've been today at the Leica Store in Kyoto.

BTW, what a beautiful place!

Mr. Tomaru attended me in that extremely polite japanese way, and explained me that it is a problem in the camera circuits. They could repair it (it's an official technical service), but would need 10 days. Because I'm leaving Kyoto in 3 days this is not a feasible solution.

But they can adjust the optical focusing in 24 hours, and that's what will be done.

Thank you, jaap, for your advice! I would not come to the idea of bringing the camera to this place...

The second part of this story is the bag I saw in this store........

Made by Yoshida Porter (the famous japanese bag maker) especially for them, it has the perfect size. I don't have the measurements, but suffice it to say that 3 M bodies, each with a lens, fit perfectly in it, or alternatively 2 bodies, each with a lens, plus 2 more lenses. There is space for a mini iBook. At the same time it is slim and light, the Billingham for Leica looks fat in comparison.

The finishing is exquisite, with fantastic and very well thought out details, delicate and soft in the interior, strong in the exterior. It resembles to a Billingham in the way it closes and opens, but is made of synthetic material.

The exterior is very elegant, with a sober decoration that is typic from Kyoto.

Yes, it is a bag which says loud and clear: "I carry very valuable things in my interior!"

And it is expensive...

But alas, sometimes it is good to be visible, isn't it?

Tomorrow I will post pictures of it.

I had the same problem with my M240 and the EVF after installing the latest firmware. The EVF worked fine on my X-Vario. After trying as many things as I could think of, I sent the camera to Leica in NJ. They fixed it under warranty and returned it to me in 3 wks. They haven't yet told me what the fix was other than "cleaning the sensor." I will call them tomorrow to see if they will explain it to me.
