dugby Posted August 23, 2014 Share #63 Â Posted August 23, 2014 After four days with this lens, I agree 100%. It is not just the sharpness. It is the way it draws. I think Puts is right. I want to shoot everything I can with this lens. My Summilux ASPH is great but I see little use for it now. Â Thanks for your candid response, I too am thinking about my 50mm options. Â Can you get close to the bokeh & ultra thin dof of the Lux @ f 1.4, with the APO @ f 2 ?
AlanJW Posted August 23, 2014 Share #64  Posted August 23, 2014 Thanks for your candid response, I too am thinking about my 50mm options. Can you get close to the bokeh & ultra thin dof of the Lux @ f 1.4, with the APO @ f 2 ? This is not based on anything but my own observations so consider it unscientific: Bokeh with the APO is smooth and to my eye beautiful, certainly comparable to or better than the f/1.4 (mine is ASPH, newest version). DOF is what one would expect comparing a f/2 with a f/1.4. Thin but not quite as razor thin. For my aging eyes, this is not a bad thing, as the f/2 wide open for portraits is more forgiving. Do I miss the razor thin f/1.4 DOF? No. But depending on how you shoot, you might think differently. The question that everyone has to answer is whether the f/2 at about 2x the price of the Summilux is worth it. I do feel like I got value received. It is now the lens that spends the most time on my M240. IMHO, the Summilux ASPH is an absolutely terrific lens but the APO is in a class of its own and I have no buyer's remorse at all this one. satijntje Posted October 9, 2014 Share #66 Â Posted October 9, 2014 I used to think that. I just sold my 50lux and won't be looking back. I'm thrilled with what I'm seeing/getting with the 50 APO. Â +1 Same here! Â John
