faranstudio Posted July 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have added M240 + APO 50mm setup in my studio photography workflow (in parallel with Hasselblad H4D-50 which is my main camera) and all I can say is I’m amazed with the quality and resolution of this lens. Contrast, sharpness and clarity on the glass and dynamic range of M240 sensor is very impressive! I have shot this photo with M240 + APO 50mm + Broncolor Para 88 with grid (main light) + Broncolor Grafit A4 pack + Elinchrom Octa Light Bank (fill light). Post process with Photoshop and Lightroom. Len's quality is superior, but Medium format has higher resolution/megapixel which allows me to crop and edit easier! also I'm a big fan of 4x3 crop/aspect ratio for fashion and beauty. I used to own Summilux 50mm 1.4 (latest version), APO feels much sharper and cleaner with better contrast. I own Noctilux 0.95 and they are completely for different purposes. If I had to pick one, I would go with APO 50mm. APO has a wider range of usability. Used to own Canon 50mm L 1.2, APO is in a different league and we should not even consider the comparison. Tried Otus before, it is too big, heavy and on Canon MK III and Nikon D800 didn't like the manual focusing. I prefer Rangefinders or Medium format platforms for manual focusing. Model is facing toward two lights. First light, Broncolor Para 88 which is 45 degree angled facing toward model's face and camera is right under that. Para modifiers are known for their best contrast and light shaping characteristics. In addition on Para 88 I'm using Broncolor honeycomb grid and diffuser number 2 to soften the light. There is a big Elinchrom Octa bank behind me as a fill light with a minimal flash pop. I hope this helps. Let me know if I need to draw that for you, happy to help. Thanks! Ii've seen too many spectacular portraits involving a D800 and a plastic 50 1.8 nikkor and skilled artists to fall into the "magical equipment" thing.
