stephengv Posted March 7, 2017 Share #41 Posted March 7, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) My lens finally arrived. Initial test shows that this lens is indeed sharp and very well made. Likewise, the lens is relatively light. My only problem with it is the lens hood does not lock into place.
Advertisement Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Hi stephengv, Take a look here Zeiss 85mm f/4 Tele-Tessar T* ZM, whose got one?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted March 7, 2017 Share #42 Posted March 7, 2017 It should, but the bajonet sometimes needs a firm hand initially. It will indeed not lock when reversed.
stephengv Posted March 7, 2017 Share #43 Posted March 7, 2017 My mistake, what I meant was, the lens hood does not lock when reversed.
jaapv Posted March 7, 2017 Share #44 Posted March 7, 2017 No, it doesn't and it is rather annoying because somehow it is always findng its own way in the camera case.
MarkP Posted March 7, 2017 Share #45 Posted March 7, 2017 Agreed. Was the only flaw with an otherwise excellent lens.

Exodies Posted September 26, 2017 Share #48 Posted September 26, 2017 17 seconds? Has that man been turned to stone?
stephengv Posted September 26, 2017 Share #49 Posted September 26, 2017 17 seconds? Has that man been turned to stone? Yup 17secs. I'll double check when I get home, but for sure its a long exposure. I think if the subject is farther away, the effect of long exposure to movement is not that prevalent. Correct me if I'm wrong.

mramadan Posted January 11, 2018 Share #53 Posted January 11, 2018 How does it compare with the Voigtlander Heliar 75mm f1.8? I am trying to decide if I should buy the tessar 85mm or the Heliar which has the advantage of being a faster lens. Any recommendation?

wattsy Posted March 30, 2018 Share #56 Posted March 30, 2018 (edited) Yup 17secs. I'll double check when I get home, but for sure its a long exposure. I think if the subject is farther away, the effect of long exposure to movement is not that prevalent. Correct me if I'm wrong. Yes, for sure, there will be a difference in the apparent distance someone can move in a given time but I think in 17 seconds you'd expect a moving person to have moved sufficiently to blur, however far away they are. I guess the person in the photo in question must be standing still, perhaps looking at his phone or something? RexGig0 Posted April 23, 2019 Share #58 Posted April 23, 2019 I am really starting to like my ZM 4/85mm Tele-Tessar, after an initial frustration with focusing accurately with the rangefinder. I had set the lens aside, after those early attempts, with my Monochrom 246. Last week, I tried again, with my M10 with better results, perhaps because I can see better, with the M10. Perhaps, I just need to drink less coffee. Mostly, I need to train, with diligence. The temporary hood, which provides negligible shade, is a 43-52mm step-up ring, which will, hopefully, act to shield the threads and bayonet mount from potential light impact damage. I have ordered a pre-owned third-party hood, threaded for 43mm filter threads, which should block a bit less of the viewfinder, but probably provide relatively little shade, compared to the Zeiss lens shade. RexGig0 Posted April 25, 2019 Share #59 Posted April 25, 2019 (edited) I just took delivery of a Heliopan 46mm threaded lens hood, long version, which, with with my 43-52mm step-up ring, and 52-46mm step-down ring, serves nicely, without vignetting. To reduce bulk, a bit, I have ordered a Heliopan 43-46mm step-up ring, a quite uncommon item, from Germany. Another nice thing about a Heliopan metal hood, is that the lens cap fits on the distal end of the hood, so is easier to reach, and keeps debris from reaching the interior of the hood.
