90mm focus ring, stiff?

Just curious if longer lenses (in general) have stiffer focusing rings than shorter lenses?

I ordered two lenses from KEH to evaluate.. a 90mm Summicron-M (v3) and a 90mm Elmarit-M 2.8.

The Elmarit rotates similarly to my Zeiss 2/50 and Nokton 35, pretty freely but far from moving on their own. It will definitely stay in place unless moved intentionally.

The Summicron-M on the other hand requires ~2-3x the force to rotate. Granted I'm moving larger glass, but even the Nokton 35 1.2 isn't this stiff, so I don't think the weight of the glass is the issue.

It seems like for telephoto lenses one might want a stiffer ring, since usually you're not jumping back and from from infinity to MFD, but I'm not 100% on that.

Just curious if all M-mount focus rings have a standard 'stiffness' they're calibrated to, or if perhaps I just received an overly stiff Summicron-M (or perhaps a 'loose' Elmarit-M)?

My copy of the 90mm F/2.8 (latest version with built-in hood) rotates smoothly and freely, and feels very well dampened- no chance whatsoever of it moving on its own. By way of comparison it feels more dampened and requires more effort to move than the Ziess 50mm f/2 Sonnar.

Can't comment on the CV lens nor the 90mm 'cron. I don't own either of them.

Thanks.. The Elmarit feels normal.. The Summicron-M definitely is stiffer than what I'm used to, but it is smooth across the entire throw.. Hrmm, maybe I can find a shop locally with a Summicron-M to evaluate it against.
