No need to go f1.0 when a scene calls for f5.6. Blurreh for the sake of blurreh is as amateur as can be. Welcome, dear visitor! Adrian Lord Posted July 19, 2014 Share #123 Â Posted July 19, 2014 (edited) LOL - Ansel has a distinguished history of wading into Nocti threads and being a contrarian, almost to the point of trolling. I think there is something that sets the F1 apart, some thing that defies logic and rational analysis. I've never used my lux ASPH since the nocti arrived about 9 months ago. For light relief, I use the ancient summitar 2.0. Â The F1 can be quite sharp: Â Edited July 19, 2014 by Adrian Lord

TheGodParticle/Hari Posted July 22, 2014 Share #131  Posted July 22, 2014 Try the Canon 400/2.8: makes the 0.95 feel like a lens cap   I'm sure but I couldn't care less .. I only have a few light weight primes in my canon kit  I only compare a Noctilux with another Noctilux
TheGodParticle/Hari Posted July 22, 2014 Share #132  Posted July 22, 2014 If you are even thinking about the weight of your gear, you are falling off the twig. Suffering is the first step of creativity.   I've developed some issues with my wrists and though temporary, weight is an inconvenience for me  I tend to use only one lens for a period of time and the 0.95 makes it's presence adequately felt after a few hours of shooting  In general true that about suffering and creativity, I haven't made any genius breakthroughs yet though

Jeff S Posted September 26, 2014 Share #138  Posted September 26, 2014 No offense, but I find the background blur in the bird photo very 'un-magical'…and the foreground areas uneven and distracting. Some other pics on this page more to my taste. To each his own.  Lenses aren't magical to me…any more than cameras…or other creative tools. Pics and prints can be, but that's more about the photographer.  Jeff
erl Posted September 27, 2014 Share #139 Â Posted September 27, 2014 It pains me to say it but my 56mm F1.2 Fuji X lens blows my 50 F1 Noctilux completely away - sad but true the Fuji is a much better lens and much cheaper. Â This is by no means saying that the Noctilux is a bad lens (far from it), just that the Fuji is an exceptionally good lens and always nails perfect focus with stunning wide open performance. I accept you findings, but have you checked if your Noctilux is properly adjusted? What are your criteria for judging that says the Fuji 'blows the Noct out of the water'? Does the fuji render the same painterly effect as the Noct? I expect (without knowing) that they are quite different in rendering and should not be used to 'compete' with each other. Just different brushes in your palette.
