Zeiss F mount on a Leica M..........

Yes, the Novoflex F-mount to Leica M works very well indeed.

One point to consider is that you will be focusing using the EVF (or LV), so the F-mount lens will be operated in stop-down mode. This was not an issue for me because I use large apertures... but if you shoot at f/5.6, or smaller, then focusing with EVF may be challenging.

Thanks for the reply.......whats stop down mode?

It means that the lens operates (as all M lenses do) with a manual diaphragm. This can be an issue if you want to close the lens down several stops while you are viewing through EVF.

SLR lenses have automatic diaphragms to enable ease of focusing at maximum aperture, and then you can use preview function to estimate DOF or focus shift in with high-speed lenses.

You focus at full aperture, and then stop down to shooting aperture.
You mean start at f22 and work down to say f8............right

?? The post above suggests that you open the lens to maximum aperture, which would be f/1.4 on a Summilux-M lens, to focus using EVF or LV.

It is both time consuming and a margin of focusing error, however, to then close down to a desired smaller aperture before shooting. That is why I raised the issue. For example, let's say you are shooting with a Nikon 85mm f/1.8 lens, and you want to set f/5.6. It will be difficult to focus precisely at f/5.6, so you open to f/1.8 and then close down after focusing... that is not a good approach, at least for me.

I wouldn't worry about the aperture thing, its not that big of a deal. Shoot with whatever aperture you want to take the picture with. The only problem I have with my F mount Zeiss on the M is that its quite bulky, I would not consider them as an everyday lens but yes they do work flawlessly with the Novoflex LEM/NIK.

Yes , I have a selection of those myself. My remarks were in the context of the OPs wish to use zf lenses. Pretty well all of those are covered by leica (or even zm) which are at least as good and much more compact.

I have to disagree, the 21mm Distagon is an astounding performer with many advantages over Leica's WA selection. I'm sure others have their picks but that's my personal favourite from the ZF series.
