Calliope Hummingbird Pair

The Calliope hummingbird is the smallest hummingbird in North America. They average 3 1/4" (8cm) in size. Note the very short tail.

This pair has a nest in an evergreen tree near the feeder I put out for them.

I know what you mean. Enjoying the early summer on your terrace. A good chair. Binoculars. A drink with some icecubes. Rigging up your camera on a tripod. A crossword puzzle to pass the time. Wait, wait and shoot! :D

Hookeye & Francois. Thank you.

Hookeye,

I just refilled the bird feeder and they buzzed around me impatiently. Nothing shy about these little guys when they want their sugar water.

Great catch, Bill.

They sound like the Baltimore Orioles that I seem have addicted to grape jelly in our back garden. I put out a fresh scoop and just stand back.
