Reasonable pricing for 90 f/2 Apo Asph Silver?

I'm thinking of buying a silver 90 f/2 Apo Asph for $3000. That's slightly high for a black version, but I can't find any reference on ebay etc for silver so I'm thinking it's rarer. There are people asking high prices but none have actually sold. Does anyone know if this is a good deal or if I should let it pass?

The forum does not do valuations, so don’t expect concrete answers. In general used chrome lenses command slightly but not crazily higher prices than black versions.

The price new is the same.

Note that many chrome lenses are considerably heavier than their black counterparts. For a lens like the 90 AA that is a real drawback. I actually sold my black one for being too heavy to carry routinely. A chrome one would have gotten zero use in my hands.

Here is a reference price on eBay:

Some inaccuracies here.

According to Leica's 01/01/2014 Price List, the APO 90 is no longer available in silver chrome new. For the very few lenses which are, silver chrome costs 3 - 4% more.

Silver chrome lenses are relatively rare and therefore command a premium, especially for the V1 Tri-Elmar (MATE).

I paid $1500 for my mint black APO 90 in 2009. How much it's worth paying is up to you, but I don't think $3000 is unreasonable.

Silver-finish APO Summicron 90mm APSH are hard to find. I found one about 9 months ago, but the premium over black was too much for me. If the piece you are considering is in excellent condition with case, box, papers, etc., then the price you mentioned is well below what I found... a Leica dealer would charge $3k today for a used black APO 90 in primo condition.

BTW, you will have some cost to get six-bit flange and adjustment of the silver-finish lens, as it must be ~10 years old, or more.

$3000 is not unreasonable for the silver 90/2 APO

But, the silver lenses are sometimes considerably heavier than the black versions so if you intend to use it a lot, this might not be the best buy as your neck will soon start protesting

By some chance if you don't buy it, do let me know - I'm also into silver chrome versions, but mostly for collection. All my user lenses are black.

Silver 90 Apo were made just from 2002 to 2004, and are scarce in consequence (and, also, uncoded too...like the Titan, which is even scarcer and older) : difference in weight, as pointed above, is far by negligible : 660g (23,28 oz.) vs. the 500g (or 480 ?) for the black... about same ratio that, for instance, the Summilux 50 asph.
