mca Posted June 13, 2014 Share #21 Â Posted June 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) although I have had no personal experience with the Sony A7 or A7r, what I have read in reviews and foruns and everything alike is mainly 2 things: Â - lenses wider than 35mm do not perform so well on the Sonys; Â - the A7r has several problems (including the vibration caused by the shutter) that the A7 seems to not have, I am not sure if this is caused by the shutter itself (it clacks twice on the A7r and once on the A7) or because of all the extra resolution of the sensor, or maybe both. Â Â So beware, if you intend to use wide lenses and if you're looking for the A7r, do spend some time reading all that you can find on the net about it and third party lenses before you buy. I like posting on forums to get the feel for what is new in the market but at the end of the day you have to make your own mind up and try out new things by yourself. Your statement above has no merit as YOU have only passed on what you have read on the net and have zero experience with any of it.....but thanks for the info anyway  I knew I would get bashed for this and of course you are right since I am not speaking from my own experience and therefore anything I say about this may be proven wrong.  But my point was just that if everyone says more or less the same things when reviewing the cameras with third party lenses, specifically Leica lenses, then it is fair to say that there is probably some truth about it, at least I like to think that if I am driving and see everyone in the opposite way then probably I am the one who is wrong and not the other way around.  Take it with a grain of salt, try it for yourself if the store offers to refund you if you're not happy, sure, but a little research can save you some future headaches as well and the research I did about Sonys and Leica lenses all returned some kind of 'meh' and specifically when using lenses < 35mm FOV  For this reason I went for a used M9 instead of a new Sony. Â I have experienced shutter vibration primarily in portrait orientation with tele lenses, such as the APO-R 280/4 and Vario-Elmar 105-280/4.2 for certain exposure times. woorob Posted June 14, 2014 Share #32 Â Posted June 14, 2014 Neil, Â K-H is right --- the WATE (being a retrofocus design) works great on the A7r. So does the MATE (28-35-50 Tri Elmar (out of production). Â Some of the other wide-angle Leica lenses create problems on the Sony due to the close distance between the lens and the camera's sensor (apparently light rays coming from the rear of some lenses -- particularly the small rangefinder lenses -- are too oblique and the sensor is not corrected for this). Â I had the A7r but ended up selling it, but not because of any wide angle or shutter shake issues; I couldn't stand the menu interface, spotty AF and the loud shutter. The lighting was not that great and even at 0.95 I still needed ISO 6400.
