Looks huge. I'm sure it will be nice. The small 28 Summicron still seems relevant. I imagine the small must-have wide of the future will be the new 35 Summicron rumored to be announced at Photokina.

Good for Leica, I guess these new lenses make them a lot of money. Does anyone else feel like they are reading about exotic Ferrari and Bugatti super-cars that they can appreciate, but will never own?

Yep, I don't think it could have been said better. I've spent a fair amount on Leica glass but our sports car is a Miata...

Hi

Any qualified guesses on wether this new 28 Lux will be produced in silver on a regular basis?

If so... and not that it really matters..., my Cron 28 silver anodized alu 11661 probably depreciated a bit at this very moment or?

Will stick to my 28 cron asph. To large and expensive for my tastes

Yep. This has been my favorite lens, the one that I would pick if, I could only keep one. I would have never guessed that I am becoming one of those guys who shoots old Leica glass... like my crappy old 50/1.4 FLE and my boring old 28 Summicron. How can I live with myself?

I agree, particularly about the size. For me, the M system us about the balance between size and performance.

I recently bought a v4 35 Summicron and it is TINY. A jewel. OK, it's only an f2 lens but to me it's the essence of an M lens. In terms of this new 28, I understand that these technological masterpiece (and slightly phallic) lenses probably inform the design of more modest, future, designs.

So be it. And each to his or her own.

Regards

As a 28/50/90 shooter, I would love to get my hands on one.

The 28 Elmarit is an unsung hero of the M lens range, so the Lux would have to go some to replace it from my bag, unless it came with a free MM of course [emoji1]

Sean Reid is saying the viewfinder blockage is a problem, and the vignetting, but hey, its a trophy lens so who cares?

It really would be good if Leica could for once address the mass market, such as it is, for Leica equipment. Just stuff people can buy and use without winning the lottery, working hard, selling a kidney, or inheriting considerable wealth. If that isn't a business plan I don't know what is.

And now you can add your crappy OLD 90/4 to the mix-no goggles any longer.

What else does Reid say. I subscribed for a few years but the lack of iPhone iPad access made me crazy. Not asking for a cut and paste from the article but some overall impressions

Some vignetting (I'm not sure I agree that it is worse than the 28/2), very good resolution across the frame (particularly in the corners), doesn't like the viewfinder blockage. In summary, it will be too expensive, but it will also be a future classic.

Cheers

John
