Does it have an ASPH element?

Thanks,

Steve

Not to my knowledge...but then it doesn't really need it. It's one of the sharpest 50s out there, sharper than the more-expensive Summilux ASPH even.

...not as fast though obviously. ;)

Looks like the spec sheet is missing from Leica's own site but I found it here:

http://leica-camera.pl/wp-content/downloads/Summicron-M_50_mm_Technical_Data_en.pdf

Worth comparing the MTF charts to other 50s...

Thanks for your response. And this is exactly why I'm asking. The listing on Leica's webpage states it *is* an ASPH lens. But the tech specs for the lens are gone. The link takes you back a page. If one digs up the specs, as you did, they appear to be for a non ASPH lens. I was wondering if Leica was in the process of updating it to an ASPH version. There was a Leica rumours post a while ago about this.

Thanks,

Steve

Someone else reported the error on their website last week - and it is an error. Of course, the new APO 50 Summicron is aspheric, and so is the price. It does not replace the older Summicron. The APO is on a different page of the site.

Indeed, make sure not to confuse the regular Summicron with the new APO-Summicron.

I agree with the other posters about how awful Leica's new web design is. They've made it much harder to find information and classed the lenses in very arbitrary sections now. :(
