pauledell Posted May 5, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted May 5, 2014 Bill, Â Perfectly framed with the colors and sharpness. That one looks like the one that sits on our power lines watching the Irish Setter when he goes out. It seem to always be there. Â Paul
Northwest Wanderer Posted May 5, 2014 Author Share #4 Â Posted May 5, 2014 Thank you John & Paul. Â The doves are hanging around for bird seed my wife supplies them. The Sharp-Shinned Hawk is still around but so far it has not tried to take another dove. Our dog runs the hawk off when it comes around. The doves are not afraid of the dog so things are going nicely in the animal kingdom.

Louis Posted May 5, 2014 Share #7 Â Posted May 5, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) A nice shot! But I feel sad for that poor dove; all those branches look like a prison fence to me! Specially, with that expression on its face!
platypus Posted May 6, 2014 Share #8 Â Posted May 6, 2014 Bill, A sweet shot! You really need a family of magpies, such as I have here, to run hawks off. As you probably know magpies are territorial in the extreme, bad tempered and very savage, they won't stand for any infringement of their territory by a bird of prey. They even see fit to gang up on our resident wedge-tailed eagle pair in an attempt to hunt them off. Of course the eagles just ignore their dive bombing tactics, which must be highly frustrating for the magpies!
Northwest Wanderer Posted May 6, 2014 Author Share #9 Â Posted May 6, 2014 Stuart, Iduna, Louis & Dee, thank you. Â Louis, I think the dove likes the tree because it makes it more difficult for the hawks to attack in such a jumble of branches. Â Dee, we have Black-Billed Magpie in my area but not many. I didn't know they were so territorial. They are an interesting bird.
