This is a large Heron/Egret rookery in a wildlife sanctuary called the Horicon Marsh. One of the neat things about watching these birds is seeing how they enter and exit the nests--straight up and down like a helicopter.

Love this! The nests, and the tiny branches that support them, appear so fragile that the birds would have to have some landing and take off strategy to avoid the whole thing crashing to earth.

The bird you have caught in mid-air is performing some aerial ballet manoeuvre. A wonderful shot.
