Creative Destruction Posted April 25, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted April 25, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I'm looking for advice on some cheap thrills for my M9.... Â I'm looking for a focal length greater than 50mm and has to be RF coupled so don't have to guess oh and it needs to be cheap, cheaper the better. I'm looking for something with a bit of character, bit of sharpness does harm but it does need to corner to corner or break any records. Â Thanks in advance

mca Posted April 25, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted April 25, 2014 I don't have experience with this specific lens but there is a Voigtlander 2.5/75 for sale in the Buy and Sell section, I think it's 350 euros. I have had several Voigtlander lenses on my Leicas and they have been very good for the price, so I think this 75mm might be a good option for someone on a budget. Creative Destruction Posted April 26, 2014 Author Share #5 Â Posted April 26, 2014 Well after a bit of a root around in the camera mall I found a 90mm elmarit, Canadian one. Glass looks great and it was only 2,900 rmb (Chinese Yuan) about 330 euro... Even came with the felt lined metal hood..... Â Happy days.... Thanks for your suggestions
rirakuma Posted April 26, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted April 26, 2014 A beater summarit 5cm f/1.5 or 90mm apo lanthar. The summarit has loads of antique character and the lanthar is technically superb, both can be bought for very cheap.

pico Posted April 26, 2014 Share #9 Â Posted April 26, 2014 The Jupiter 9 should provide some cheap thrills at 85/f2 Â And Canon made a few different versions of 85mm screw-mount lenses of F/2 and faster. They are always on the big auction site. .
farnz Posted April 27, 2014 Share #10 Â Posted April 27, 2014 Personally I'd recommend a Carl Zeiss Jena 85/2 Sonnar for a lovely dreamy look, classic Sonnar smoothness in the out of focus areas, and acceptably sharp where it needs to be. farnz Posted April 27, 2014 Share #11  Posted April 27, 2014 Sorry. I just couldn't help myself. My first record…. Ah, the unmistakable cartoonistry of the great Robert Crumb. MarkP Posted April 27, 2014 Share #12  Posted April 27, 2014 Ah, the unmistakable cartoonistry of the great Robert Crumb. That brings back memories of Mr Natural, Keep On Truckin', Fritz the Cat and Janis Joplin. Pete.  I was just remembering I got that albumin 1972 when I was ten years old. The album was already four years old and Janis already dead for two years. I heard Ball & Chain and Summertime somewhere and asked my parents to get the album for me - only album of hers I really liked. Within two years I had graduated to Deep Purple, Pink Floyd,, etc.  ...but I can't believe that Cheap Thrills was released 45 years ago - I'm getting old.    Dear OP, sorry to hijack the thread . philipus Posted April 28, 2014 Share #13 Â Posted April 28, 2014 I know you already bought a lens so fwiw I used to own a Nikkor 8,5cm f2 in LTM which I liked a lot. Mine was a real beater and cost little. Here's an example: Â Â
dg2mst Posted April 29, 2014 Share #14 Â Posted April 29, 2014 I would go for the Elmar-C 90/4. This lens was originally designed for the Leica CL and there is some talk about focussing issues on "ordinary" M-mount Leicas. Personally, I have yet to encounter any issues even wide open - although f4 is not particularly wide open, for that matter. Â As for "cheap thrills": If I remember correctly, the Elmar-C is the cheapest M-mount Leica lens on the market right now. I paid 110 Euros for mine in perfectly good order with original rubber hood, caps and even a small leather bag. Just make sure, you get it with hood and caps, because they don't really affect the selling price but are (relatively) expensive if you pick them up afterwards...
