T Mount - The Movie

Recommended Posts

Actually, what it does is rather remind me of how Umberto Eco described a pornographic movie:

"Pornographic movies are full of people who climb into cars and drive for miles and miles, couples who waste incredible amounts of time signing in at hotel desks, gentlemen who spend many minutes in elevators before reaching their rooms, girls who sip various drinks and who fiddle interminably with laces and blouses before confessing to each other that they prefer Sappho to Don Juan. To put it simply, crudely, in porn movies, before you can see a healthy screw you have to put up with a documentary that could be sponsored by the Traffic Bureau."

Except this Leica T ad has no sex, which is incredibly frustrating after a 45 minute wait.

Now you need to look for skin protectors, body protectors, camera case and a bag to carry the skin protected, body protected and cased camera ...

... or just keep your new T in the box it came in ...

... go shooting and send to the Leica craftsman the wonderful photo to console him for the blemishes made on 45 min of hard labor!

Leica should fire immediately ALL of it's marketing dept. immediately!

Not only is that video a total failure, and Dr. Kaufmann is anything but someone that can make such a video, he should be reminded that he IS NOT Steve Jobs... But also their new site sucks as well. What were they thinking? And Kaufmann roleplaying Jony Ive? Yikes!

I like the styling and apparent ergonomics of the T, and if used with adapted M lenses the price doesn't seem excessive, but I guess I'm totally alone in finding that video depressing?

When I think of 'handmade' and the premium that comes with that label, I tend not to think of tasks better performed by a machine. This is probably patronizing, and I'm glad the guy in this video has a job that probably pays well, and which he maybe finds fulfilling and enjoyable, but to me it feels like the movie was made to accentuate why Leica cameras cost more than other manufacturers, rather than to say anything really meaningful about the camera itself.

Anyway, I'm glad not to be in the consumerist digital whirlwind anymore - I'd probably fall for this designer item. Then I'd need to spend countless fruitless hours online afterwards, justifying my post-purchase cognitive dissonance.

I don't like this add, its pretentious. I appreciate good craftsmanship and I understand it takes a while to make this camera but this add feels really blunt. If Hermes did a 3h add showing how the crafters hand stitch their Birkin bag I'm sure many will fall asleep too.

Any process or production engineer would find how to save 20 minutes from the 45 whilst sipping a glass of wine, or perhaps a beer. I used to hand grind race engine cylinder heads, I certainly chose the right tools and wrapping emery cloth round what looks like a file was not something I'd expect to do in a bespoke very low volume engineering workshop, let alone a production line !

In my view what's wrong with the video isn't the fact it's boring for the viewer, it's the whole attitude from Leica that the buyer should somehow feel gratified that another human being has spent 45 minutes pampering their camera with a power tool.

Leaving aside the whole fact that watching random parts gives the unmistakable impression that at least half of that 45 minutes is just purely wasted time.

This is the real problem of the video:

And I don't mind the thing that they copied the unibody idea which is/was great from the start from Apple, but that Apple like it or not is a super duper Mega Corp, most likely the biggest in our world with unimaginable resources available including cash. Leica isnt this and doesn't even need to be like this. So they better focus where they are good at and stop copying Apple. Unless there is a secret deal with these two we don't really know about ;)

Btw guys, Apple is out to expand it's product lines to new stuff. Cook has said this numerous times. Many thought that they wanted to expand into medical and various health products, but imagine them wanted to expand in ... photgraphy ... made in USA. Just a thought :D

Unibody from Apple? Well, well. I think they themselves copied Siemens' idea of a magnesium body laptop Siemens introduced about 15 years ago with their Scenic Mobile model range. I owned one, which was a great and longlasting investment.

I hope that nobody seriously believes that the T is really hand polished for 45 minutes by a 'craftsman's loving hands'...

C'mon Leica, get real and who really cares if its polished in poland , portugal, japan or Germany..a machine is a machine ;)
