Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. Review & Rating | PCMag.com

First? review for the PL 15mm f1.7 Summilux.

Maybe we'll see some more comprehensive test reports soon now that at least one lens has found its way to a reviewer.

I'll need to see a few more reviews of the lens before deciding whether or not to order.

The PanaLeica 42.5mm f1.2 M4/3 lens has excellent reviews. So far cannot find any images in the Leica Forum 'Photo Forum' taken with this lens.

When have Leica and Panasonic let us down with m3/4 lenses! I have the 25mm Summilux and it renders pretty well the same as the full frame 50mm Asph.

Very good to know. Thanks.

FWIW, I've been using the Voigtlander 25mm F/0.95 for a couple years. It is remarkably crisp and well corrected.

Recently acquired a Pana GX7 for lightweight (birding) photography. While waiting for the upcoming Pana Leica DG 50-200mm lens I bought the Leica DG Summilux 15mm which is a neat little lens indeed.   See attached.

Yes, I have put quite a few shots on the forum. The GX-8 or GX9 would have been a better choice for the Vario-Elmar, as the image stabilisation is a magnitude better than the GX7, because those will have dual IS.

The lens is on the market since 2014, BTW

Jaap,

After half a century with an M2 and M4P I toyed with the digital M but chose a rangefinder styled Pana M4/3 for the weight/reach ratio. I compromised on the GX7 because of its looks & feel. Neither the GH5 nor the G81 appealed to me. For my purposes – documenting bird species at an amateur level – I believe the GX7’s IQ will suffice. Of course I may upgrade at some point if I need weather protection and improved OIS.

At last! A precognition mode for decisive moment photography!

4K Pre-Burst: This mode is ideal for times when you're unsure of the critical moment to press the shutter button and will record 8 MP images at 30 fps one second prior to and one second after pressing the shutter button in order to give you 60 frames to choose from.

:lol:

@Pico,

An intuitive mode if I'm not mistaken, too challenging for an old git like me ;)

@Jaap,

I watch guys hump lenses around that I swear would please my chiropractic no end, but not me. Just announced PL Elmarit 200mm f2.8 fits my reach requirements but hardly my wallet or weight constraints. Wonder what happened to the rumoured PL Vario-Elmarit 50-200mm for €1500? Bang goes my Xmas present!

Probably not older than I. The only way I can imagine such an option is that the camera starts recording to the buffer at a half-press of the shutter release, and if a complete press is not made it erases the recording. If the shutter is completed it stores all the images - probably including the feet of the photographer as he lowers the camera. ;)

To Jaap - you aren't complaining. Yer bragging. Still love ya, man.

Aside: I saw the doctor yesterday and he measured my blood pressure. He said, "Your heartbeat is slow and your pressure is so low that disregarding other things you could live to 100, but on a daily basis you might think you are dead." So true.

The system works by having a permanent buffered 4K feed. The camera chooses a starting point a second before the shutter is pressed and creates a 30 fps burst. for a couple of seconds. The limitation is that you get 8 MB JPGs.

The other option they are using is post focus. During a 4K burst the AF shifts, making it possible to choose the focus point in the computer.

So, the camera is constantly recording regardless of the intention of the photographer and when he touches the shutter release, it saves the previous second, the moment and the following second right?

Okay. Stop the world. I want to get off.
