Oh we're all pulling your leg :).

Seriously though, I would have thought that unlike the provision of the box (with matching sn), paperwork, and lens pouch, the presence or absence of the serial number on a plastic bag is irrelevant to resale.

 Someone actually uses their leather Leica lens pouch .

I have never used the leather lens pouches as I think they are too bulky and cumbersome. They are all packed in the lens boxes with it's plastic bags and put away for if I ever come to sell the lens.

There is that little grey circular patch on the bottom of the pouch which I thought was to write on if you needed to ID the pouch/lens. However, that would of course significantly compromise the selling price on eBay.

My understanding was that the pouch was just like an expensive version of the plastic bag, but unlike the plastic bag it doesn't have a serial number.

Love those cases and use them constantly, even if they are in the camera bag,

I only buy lenses to use, not to sell. Should I decide, in the end, to sell it will be Condition A- or less through use and nobody will have the slightest interest in the box.

But Jaap, many people do buy and then sell lenses for a variety of reasons so I can understand that they do want to maintain the option of the highest resale value possible.

I buy and use my lenses not planing on resale, and I don't baby them. But they don't suffer that day-to-day wear and tear that more regularly used or professionally used equipment would invariably accumulate. I have only ever sold on three lenses, all bought new: a 28 Elmarit ASPH (replaced by the Summicron), a 35 Summarit (nice lens but just wasn't using that FL much and I have the Summilux FLE), and a Zeiss 4.5/21 (because of red edge). I have no doubt that the good prices I got were contributed to by the lenses being in excellent condition and the original packaging kept intact.

I do still keep and put all of the packaging away (I never use the leather lens cases regardless) should I ever plan to sell a lens.

My experience selling them was different.. I find it does not make any difference for a user grade lens, which my lenses revert to pretty quickly. I would not pay one dollar more for a box, and not one cent for a plastic bag. As for leather pouches, I never can find the right one in my drawer anyway….:(
