Advertisement Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Hi earleygallery, Take a look here Anyone buying a Petzval for their M?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pgk Posted March 11, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted March 11, 2014 There are various original Petzval lenses available if you look on auction and specialist photo shop sites. Original versus copy - which would actually be preferable I wonder?
Paul J Posted March 11, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted March 11, 2014 I thought it was interesting but the few samples I've seen don't look so Petzval-esque. Just like a cheap lens. Same with a lot of these Lomo type of things - well marketed and produced gimmicks. Â I think a Summitar looks better, personally. There are often Petzval designs that are appropriate for 35mm formats turning up on ebay, lenses that are the real deal such as Dallmeyer. I think part of the fun of these lenses is hunting for one. And finding an amazing one in that era means there is probably else nothing else like it. Not like these me too gimmicks. Â I'm sure it would still be a bit of fun using this new one though can't do any harm.
250swb Posted March 11, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted March 11, 2014 I agree with you Paul, I haven't seen any non-promo images from it yet that look like they've been made with a Petzval lens, and yes, a Summitar isn't so far off at all, and much nicer stopped down as well! Â The good thing is the Nikon and Canon mount, and I applaud Lomo for having a go, it's a great idea, but it needs to work, although there is the thought that the images I have seen haven't been taken fully down the post processing path that may be needed. Ecar Posted March 12, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted March 12, 2014 I did order one (black) out of curiosity for my Canon DSLR. Might try it on the M as well when I get it. Not holding my breath, though.
semi-ambivalent Posted March 12, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted March 12, 2014 Same with a lot of these Lomo type of things - well marketed and produced gimmicks. Â If even a small fraction of the Lomo kids stays with photography and discovers how fulfilling it can be then it's a gimmick I can live with, even if their images make mine look crappier than they might already look. Some most certainly will produce great images. Â Gimmicks? Hmmm, maybe Lomography could produce a Ralph Gibson model, limited to 10,000 units...
