Just when I thought winter was over my old horse has to manage another snowstorm.

Michael & Brent,

Last week I saw robins but this week it will be snow and rain.

Funny thing with horses, the barn is left open so they can get out of the weather. Seems they just stay outside for the most part.

What's the old saying, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink."

Bill,

A fine shot. At least you didn't have to shovel a path for your horse like we had to do to get our dogs out in the yard. Our Scottie and Beagle have such short legs, they needed a road to travel on.

He seems like he is taking it one step at a time without a hint of discomfort.

A stoic horse! There is a feeling of serenity (at least for me) that leads me to think this way.

Extra hay is the least you can do ;)

Poor old fellow! But he looks to be in fine condition due to your care of him.

A very long time ago I would to whinge to my father about the animals I thought

were suffering outside during a harsh winter, while we were all snug in the house.

He always said "they're beasts of the field kid, they are designed to take it".

No comfort to me at the time, but I guess that's why your horses choose not to go into the barn.

Ece & Dee, thank you.

This horse is 23 years old this year and has wintered well. He knows to avoid the deeper snow drifts and measures his steps as he goes. I've had him since he was a colt and find him a joy to be around.

The barn doors are open 24/7 should he wish to take shelter.

Louis,

I can understand your feelings but as a life long horseman I can assure you he is fine. If you wish I can post a new image taken today.

Dear Bill, as I do not have any experience in this area; I fully trust your words!... :)

Once in the middle of nowhere in Arizona, I saw an extremely skinny horse walking along the road, all by itself and nothing around! I wish I could do something, but what?... I felt so bad about that poor animal that I didn't even think to take a shot!

Louis,

No problem with your comment.

I can understand your reaction to the image. I share your feelings about animals that are not treated well. I've turned in other horse owners (I don't regard them as horseman) for not caring for their animals in a humane manner.
