Acceptable focus error?

90 TEM is a great lens, small light and fun to use. That said, I'd want one that is better calibrated than the one you seem to have. Forget what you local Leica dealer said. If you are in the US, reach out to Leica in NJ and talk to Carmen, see what she has to say, there is no way they will charge you that much. From there I'd see what Sherry Krauter at golden touch has to say. She just redid a 50mmm Summarit 1.5 for me for $120 including shipping and It's spot on.

Good luck!

I've come to the conclusion that if you owned a Noctilux, 50/1.4, 75/2, 90/2 and 135/3.4 and more then one M/M9 body the chances of you getting all these lenses to work perfectly with all the digital bodies is virtually zero.

I have a rogue 75/2 that is hopeless on my old spare M9 and MM but works ok on my M ..... the Nocti is fine on all three ..... the 135/3.4 ok on 2 but not on the third ......the 50/1.4 back-focusses on 2 bodies and front focusses on 1 .... and so it goes on.

I have adjusted the bodies to work as well as I can with most of these lenses. W/A's and slower 50's are not a problem.

The 75/2 will be going back (again) to be 'adjusted' and no doubt I will have the same problems just in a different configuration when it comes back.

If you have multiple lenses and bodies all with a 'tolerance' rather than a fixed precise adjustment you are always going to have some issues with a RF...... unless you avoid fast lenses and particularly ones with floating elements like the 50/1.4 ......

Depending on what other lenses you have , you may be able to adjust the RF to work well with it and still keep the other lenses within a tolerance that enables them to function ok .

I generally adjust my bodies to the most finicky lenses ........ Nocti and 135/3.4 ...... and usually the others will then be ok. If not, then it's usually a lens issue.

I used to use the 75/2 ....... but after a lot of experiment and head scratching it became obvious this was the joker in the pack and had just caused endless trouble ....

I ended up with a large spreadsheet with the various performances of a dozen lenses on 3 bodies at various distances....... and the wrong un stuck out like a sore thumb......

I was still left with a rubiks cube type problem of how to adjust things so they all focussed perfectly........... in the end it was 'adjust for the ones I usually use' and forget the rest ....

Jan, Leica has this 'stick" as well on the 135. It is just a lever to transfer the movement of the helicoid which is located inside the lens because of the length. There is no difference really to a shorter lens which has the roller running on the helicoid directly.

Thanks for the information Jaap. I've never owned anything longer than 90mm, so have not come across this before.
