tredlie Posted February 9, 2014 Share #21 Â Posted February 9, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have auf look at the FLI Mastershots. I found that all lenses are used for all motifs and no excuse or proof that I do need a 24 wa. Further, now I am sadly convinced that another lens will not improve my pictures. Advertisement Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Hi tredlie, Take a look here Your favourite travel lenses for M digital?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Rick Posted February 9, 2014 Share #22 Â Posted February 9, 2014 28 Summicron is the correct answer. For real-world travel photos it is THE most exciting, electrifying, rousing, action-packed lens on the planet, ever made, ever. Â RickHuff
algrove Posted February 9, 2014 Share #23 Â Posted February 9, 2014 35FLE is the correct answer for me.
erl Posted February 9, 2014 Share #24  Posted February 9, 2014 But then you cannot extend or fit the matched lens hoods. Nick . . . .and I bet you will find a greater and more frequent need for the hoods than the filters!
ynp Posted February 10, 2014 Share #25 Â Posted February 10, 2014 For travel, I find that one 28mm. lens kit is a bit restrictive. A bit longer lens is easier for people shooting IMO. Â One lens: C-Summicron 40/2 or M-Rokkor 40/2 or Sonnar 40/2.8 Two lens travel set: Konica Dual 21-35 and any fast 50 mm. Â M-Rokkor acts as a body cap. Herr Barnack Posted February 10, 2014 Share #26 Â Posted February 10, 2014 I would take either a 35mm or a 28mm and a 50mm. Or all three, If I had them.
erl Posted February 10, 2014 Share #27 Â Posted February 10, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Like any good tradesman, I take my entire kit to the assignment. I then choose from the full suite of 'tools' which ones are applicable for the the moment. Â Scenario: Arr @ destination. Select three or less lenses to walkaround. After assesment maybe change lenses carried on that day or reduce. Leave others in hotel for the day. Tomorrow: similar with on the spot variations as decided. Sounds complicated? Not in practice. Â Standard travel kit: Minimum two digital bodies. Possibly one or two film bodies. Lenses: 15mm Cv, 24mm elmarit, 28mm elmarit, 35mm summicron, 50mm summicron, 50mm Noctilux, 75mm summicron, 90mm summicron. Â All the above fits in a Billingham thin. I use pouches each day so working load is very manageable. Â Carry on kit for plane is sizeable, but that is all. Worst case scenario: Being somewhere without the right gear. It does not happen to me. Â You must suffer for your craft or you are just playing at it! Â Edit: My primary reason to travel is to make pictures, not to enjoy 5 star facilities. YMMV. flyalf Posted February 10, 2014 Share #28 Â Posted February 10, 2014 The 35/1,4 FLE is the lens that I would bring on any travel. It might not be the lens with most character, but is a wonder of compromises.

I found that all lenses are used for all motifs and no excuse or proof that I do need a 24 wa. Further, now I am sadly convinced that another lens will not improve my pictures. Â Another focal length never improves one's pictures, it just lets you take different pictures. Â This is an excuse to quote one of my favourite little expressions: "Money doesn't bring happiness. MarkP Posted February 10, 2014 Share #30  Posted February 10, 2014 28 Summicron is the correct answer. For real-world travel photos it is THE most exciting, electrifying, rousing, action-packed lens on the planet, ever made, ever. RickHuff  What an understatement Rick - and from a man not known for hyperbole. But I do happen to agree!
pajamies Posted February 10, 2014 Share #31 Â Posted February 10, 2014 Summilux 35/1.4 (latest model) has the most mileage of my lenses. Â A little bulky in comparison to the Summarit, which I had as a loaner on my M9P, when all my lenses were in Solms with the Leica M. The pictures with the Summarit on the M9P turned out excellent, so on basis of this one trip experience, I could recommend the Summarit 35/2.5. swamiji Posted February 10, 2014 Share #32 Â Posted February 10, 2014 What I take depends on the location. The less I know the more I take. In most urban places, I can take just the 28mm Elmarit and the 75 APO-Summicron and do just fine. However if I am going to the mountains, I will want my WATE, and Perhaps a 135mm. If I expect to do any serious night shooting then it's my 24mm Lux, f1 Noctilux.
Tonki-M Posted February 10, 2014 Share #33 Â Posted February 10, 2014 until Leica introduces Summilux to the 28mm line, my vote is still for 35FLE!
algrove Posted February 10, 2014 Share #34  Posted February 10, 2014 erl and swamiji  Both your methods parallel mine. I misread the original post and thought it was for one lens only.
swamiji Posted February 10, 2014 Share #35 Â Posted February 10, 2014 until Leica introduces Summilux to the 28mm line, my vote is still for 35FLE! Â I too am waiting on the 28mm Summilux, except I chose 24mm. At the time I had the M8...
gvaliquette Posted February 10, 2014 Share #36 Â Posted February 10, 2014 I also travel with more than one lens, but I find that the most used lens is my 50mm/f2.8 Elmar-M. Â Guy

Rick Posted February 11, 2014 Share #38 Â Posted February 11, 2014 And when paired with a 50 Summilux, it meets all my needs for a small travel kit. Â We finally agree!!! Your two lens kit with the 50 Summilux is my travel kit. I'll push my luck here... my three lens kit would add the Macro 90. Â RickZen
erudolph Posted February 11, 2014 Share #39 Â Posted February 11, 2014 agreed. 28mm cron, 50mm of some flavor, plus 90mm macro elmar is a nice kit. 2 lens kit, i would also omit the 90.
Jeffry Abt Posted February 11, 2014 Share #40  Posted February 11, 2014 the 35mm Summicron ASPH is one of my favourite lenses. Nick I agree absolutely, wouldn't want to do without it!
