Geolux Posted February 7, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted February 7, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) A rarely used 90mm f/2.8 TELE-ELMARIT has developed some clouding or fogging. Can this be cleaned? If so, any idea of the cost? Is it worth cleaning or replacing glass? Other than the cloudiness, the lens is in like-new physical condition. StephenPatterson Posted February 7, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted February 7, 2014 OK, first question. How do the images look? Do you feel there's a loss of contrast or sharpness? Â If the problem is fog or haze, caused by dust or lubricants breaking down, it can usually be cleaned during a CLA. If it is fungus it can sometimes be cleaned if caught early, otherwise it can etch the glass and render the lens damaged beyond repair. Â Is this a thin or fat Tele-Elmarit? Ecar Posted February 7, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted February 7, 2014 You should be able to have it removed if it's at an early stage. A CLA by a reputable specialist should cost you about 90 EUR / 120 USD.
Geolux Posted February 7, 2014 Author Share #4  Posted February 7, 2014 HI: Thanks to everybody who replied. It is a thin tele-elmarit - Canadian  Geolux
Geolux Posted February 7, 2014 Author Share #5 Â Posted February 7, 2014 The images are sharp enough, but I feel that the contrast has been slightly compromised. Â Geolux
Geolux Posted February 7, 2014 Author Share #6 Â Posted February 7, 2014 Hello: The fogginess or haze seems to be evenly spread across the entire surface of the lens. I would take a guess and say that it appears to be on the back of the front element. Â Geolux

StephenPatterson Posted February 8, 2014 Share #8 Â Posted February 8, 2014 As you say the lens is in like new physical condition, so it would definitely be financially worth the cost of a CLA to have the haze cleaned from the lens elements.
