hello!

to the owners of the Leica 24mm f3.8 Elmar: i am selling my copy and the prospective buyer was asking if the lens comes with a front cap IN ADDITION to the lens hood cap...B&H has its listing that it has one but i think that was a typo (both Adorama and PopFlash does NOT have front cap on their listing)...but to be absolutely certain, I ask for the assistance from this community to confirm if the Leica 24mm f3.8 comes with or without a LENS FRONT CAP (again, not referring to the HOOD CAP)

thank you all!

Can't comment specifically on this lens, but as it has a similar hood/cap configuration to the 35 1.4 FLE I can confirm there was a front cap inside the box, under the leather bag in a foam insert - you may want to check in there. (It also had a ring to screw over the hood mounting thread, to make the finish smoother if you wanted to not use the hood.)

The lens hoods on the Elmar WA lenses screw directly onto the lens barrel... somehow Leica got a patent for this! There is no way to attach an additional, circular front lens cap onto these lenses because there is no internal thread to receive the lenscap grips. I have not double-checked my lens boxes, but I am quite sure that my 18 SEM and 24 ELMAR were supplied with lens hoods and rectangular front caps only.

In terms of B & H, they are famous for erroneous or incomplete product listings. I have sent in corrections from time to time, but B & H just ignores them. Probably too busy packing new orders to worry about the accuracy of their web pages :p.

The 18 SEM and 21 SEM only come with the rectangular screw on hood and rectangular plastic slide on cap. The 28 Elmarit ASPH has a rectangular snap on hood with rectangular plastic snap on cap, and also a round metal press on cap with felt liner which can be used when the hood is removed. The 35 FLE has both the screw on rectangular hood with slide on cap and the round metal spacer with round plastic snap on cap (as mentioned above).

Sorry I don't have the 24 Elmar, but there certainly is a great deal of variability in Leica hoods and caps supplied with lenses.

The 24 mm Elmar comes with a lens hood and associated rectangular plastic cap and that is all. I have previously commented on the fact that it should also come with an additional threaded capping ring and circular cap for occasions when you wish to dispense with the lens hood such as when using a filter holder. I think it is fundamentally wrong not to be offered these extra items with the lens.
