teids Posted January 30, 2014 Share #1  Posted January 30, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi  I am writing in order to kindly ask for your advice.  i recently came across someone selling a 35mm Summilux ASPH Titan Color for slightly below 3'000USD. Then lens seems in good condition. This is not the the FLE version.  On EBAY I have seen prices way above this one for what looked like the same lens.  I usually buy new lenses but the price seems so good that I might tempt it.  Is there something that I should be careful of when buying used? Does it seem like a good deal to you?

earleygallery Posted January 30, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted January 30, 2014 Buying a s/h Leica lens is pretty straightforward (assuming usual caveats). Check that the lens is optically ok, no scratches, haze, fungus etc and that the aperture blades aren't oily. Â Even then, a lens CLA is usually inexpensive. If you think the price is good then snap it up!
satijntje Posted January 30, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted January 30, 2014 Well, just saw one on Ebay for nearly 6000 USD, so it seems to be a bargain! I would get it, if I were you. Titan is rare...... and beautiful:D:D Â John
Paul J Posted January 31, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted January 31, 2014 Sorry to be a downer but it sounds like a scam at that price. Maybe not but just be careful.
wattsy Posted January 31, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted January 31, 2014 Well, just saw one on Ebay for nearly 6000 USD Â That may have been a Hong Kong listing, many of which are offered at over ambitious BIN prices. Leica lens prices are quite soft at the moment and $3000 doesn't strike me as out of line for a 'titanium' pre-FLE ASPH Summilux which I see coming up for sale (along with the contemporaneous M6 in the same finish) quite frequently. I don't think these lenses are particularly rare and shouldn't be confused with more recent titanium versions of current lenses that were sold as part of very expensive special editions. I certainly don't think it sounds anything like a scam price.

Bill W Posted January 31, 2014 Share #8 Â Posted January 31, 2014 Looking at listings on ebay it is not really out of line with what is offered. There are several 50 Summilux available under $3,
satijntje Posted January 31, 2014 Share #9 Â Posted January 31, 2014 We speak here about the Titan Version. Not the normal One! J
Verteidiger Posted February 3, 2014 Share #10 Â Posted February 3, 2014 What is the difference between the titanium version and the standard one apart from colour and maybe weight?

AlanJW Posted February 4, 2014 Share #12 Â Posted February 4, 2014 When I decided to get a FLE I sold a titanium 35mm for between $3000 and $4000. That was 2 years ago so I think the price is pretty good. I'd just vet the seller a bit to give yourself some comfort, including whether he/she will allow a return if it is not as described. StephenPatterson Posted February 4, 2014 Share #13 Â Posted February 4, 2014 Keep in mind that the term "titanium" is somewhat misleading, as the lens is brass with a thin titanium alloy coating. The weight and feel will be nearly identical to the silver chrome lens (which is also plated over brass) as opposed to the lighter black aluminum lenses, which have an anodized finish.
