bruniroquai Posted January 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there guys, after selling my MP,M6, 50LA, 35LA, and 28/2, I bought myself a M2 with a Nokton 35, gorgeus kit and very handle. Now I'm in the searching for a 50, cheap, and my main candidates are Elmar 50 V1 (300€), Summicron 50 Collap (around 450€) and 50 Summarit 1.5 (400€) or maybe a IIIC with an elmar/cron 50? What do You think? How good is the Elmar compared with the others? I know it has 14 blades, gorgeus bokeh I guess. The summarit is very soft at 1.5 but maybe I can use it for portraiture work. And the cron is my favourite, but I've found very expensive these days. The other option, the IIIC and the 50.. well another camera probably is not the best option. I have been considered buy the 40 cron and part just with it, but... maybe I will miss a little bit more wide shots. Thanks!

A late (coated) V1 Elmar 50 is a fine lens, a good match for your M2, as long as you don't mind the ergonomics. It's not only cheaper, but also much easier to find in good condition than the collapsible Cron, which is frequently plagued by haze or cleaning marks. earleygallery Posted January 19, 2014 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2014 Try to find a 3.5 Elmar, it's a better lens than the 2.8 at wider apertures. Evens out at 5.6 though.
bruniroquai Posted January 19, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted January 19, 2014 Mmmm, I've been offered a IIIc with an elmar 3,5 for 350€... Mmm... I will try both elmar!
earleygallery Posted January 20, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 20, 2014 Mmmm, I've been offered a IIIc with an elmar 3,5 for 350€... Mmm... I will try both elmar! Hi, I was referring to the M version which is better suited to your M2, has a 39mm filter thread and a normal aperture ring. It is the same lens as the LTM red scale Elmar, which was an improvement over the earlier versions, although the differences are slight. The lens on the lllc is most likely the earlier 'black scale' version and may not be coated.
TomB_tx Posted January 20, 2014 Share #6 Posted January 20, 2014 The first Leica I used (1965) was an M2 with 50 2.8 Elmar, and it is a very nice combination. Now I have both the 3.5 and 2.8 versions of the M-mount 50 Elmar, and the 3.5 does seem a bit better, but the M-mount version is harder to find. bruniroquai Posted January 23, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted January 23, 2014 I will try to find the 3.5 M or 2,8 at good prices if not a IIIC with the old 3.5 sounds good.
