620max Posted January 19, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted January 19, 2014 Also, I want to know: if I find a 35mm summicron, should I need to care which version is then go to buy it? big difference between each version of the "35mm Summicron"? lct Posted January 19, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 19, 2014 my budget is about USD$1000 thanks If you want new lenses, the Zeiss Biogons 35/2 and 35/2.8 are the best options. On the second hand market, all Summicrons you could find at this price point would be outperformed by the Biogons i'm afraid so the only reasons to prefer the formers would be size or subjective preferences i cannot comment on. Another excellent option would be a second hand Leica Summarit 35/2.5 if you can find one or a Voigtlander Skopar 35/2.5 if you like its OoF rendition. DirkB17 Posted January 19, 2014 Share #6 Posted January 19, 2014 My recommendation is also the Leica Summarit 35. Excelent value and beautiful rendering. Bought mine used and love it.

geotrupede Posted January 19, 2014 Share #8 Posted January 19, 2014 Summicron used or CV 35 1.7 both very good. and if you want to have Noctilux look then the CV 35 1.2 (old or new) G
iedei Posted January 20, 2014 Share #9 Posted January 20, 2014 if you're OK with 40mm.....get a 40mm Summicron. You can find a very nice example for $600 or so. 99% of the performance of a 35mm Summicron for the price of one of those terrible half-ass Voigtlander things or those threequarters-ass summarit things.

620max Posted January 21, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted January 21, 2014 By the way, I found a very great condition "Voigtlander colour skopar 35mm 2.5" but that is a L39 LTM version, i think it can be use on M8 with a adapter, is any difference between the M mount version? bill Posted January 21, 2014 Share #13 Posted January 21, 2014 Yes. I had the LTM, moved to the M version, and a few months later, moved back... the LTM version is less bulky and handles far better. Optically they are identical, and superior in my experience to the much-vaunted Summicron v4. Sent from another Galaxy
620max Posted January 21, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted January 21, 2014 well, good news for me! that's why LTM version is less than the M version on the market...thanks~
Guest odeon Posted January 21, 2014 Share #15 Posted January 21, 2014 You must try Zeiss Biogon 2.0/35 ZM.
Montygraphics Posted January 21, 2014 Share #16 Posted January 21, 2014 I am a new M8 user and whilst I have no lens experience I bought a new Voigtlander colour skopar 35mm 2.5 M fit for my M8 and I am very pleased with it. Sharp and bright clear colours.
Philinflash Posted January 21, 2014 Share #17 Posted January 21, 2014 The Zeiss lens is not coded for the the M8, but that can be corrected either professionally or on your own. I use a Summicron 35mm on my M8 but, knowing what I know now, I would go for the Zeiss 35/2 lens and get it coded if I were doing it all over again. With the Leica lens, I have had problems with flare when light hot spots are in or near the field of vision. I have done a few comparisons with a Zeiss lens and it seemed to be less affected. I always liked the Zeiss glass in my Hasselblad system.
satijntje Posted January 26, 2014 Share #18 Posted January 26, 2014 Most Leica M starters (M8 or M9) that buy a non-Leica lens to start with, will buy a real Leica lens within the first 6 months after their first Leica purcashe! It is called LEICA-GAS! John
tobey bilek Posted January 26, 2014 Share #19 Posted January 26, 2014 Colors are IR contaminated on the M8 so you will need uv/it like the B+W 486. 35 mm needs the camera correction in the corners slightly so coded is a plus. By 28 mm for sure needs coding. Not much difference between the ASPH and Version 4. All 35 mm Summicrons are decent. People are very happy with 35 2.8 Biogon as it is very sharp. 2.0 Biogon is also good. You should self code. I personally believe CV lenses are up to snuff. tenezus Posted January 26, 2014 Share #20 Posted January 26, 2014 I went for the 35mm summarit. Best decision ever...
