Am just getting ready for a trip to Japan tomorrow. Took the rear lens cap off the Tri-Elmar and the part on the left of the image fell out. Anyone any ideas for putting it back or does it mean a trip to Germany?

(Sorry, had to use a Nikon macro to take the photo … hope it's acceptable.)

Appreciate any advise.

Further to my original post I've managed to screw the part back in but it's only finger tight.

Will go to Leica in Tokyo on arrival and have them check it out.

After seeing your picture I checked mine and it is in very tight.

Worth checking from time to time I guess.

Thanks for your comments. There is no other damage, guess it must have worked lose due to vibration somewhere.

Yes, you're right about it being a good travel lens. When I want to keep the weight down I just travel with that and a WATE.

Cheers, Tom

This is new to me. Any other signs of damage? Do let us know the outcome. Enjoy your trip. The TE is an excellent travel lens.

Sorry, the above post is in response to yours. Senior moment!

Tom,

Sorry to hear about your lens. I don't have a MATE but it looks like a baffle to me to prevent internal reflections. To screw it in tighter you might try wearing a pair of Marigolds to provide extra friction. Hope your trip goes well!

Pete.

That's a bloody good idea Pete, I'll give it a try. Arrived Tokyo this morning (Sunday), went to the Leica store but they don't have anyone in customer service until Tuesday.

Anyone know the Japanese for Marigolds?

Cheers, Tom

… Anyone know the Japanese for Marigolds?

Tom,

I think it's

私のホバークラフトはウナギがいっぱいです。

Pete.

PS, I suspect Google will wrongly translate this as "My hovercraft is full of eels." so you should probably disregard Google and keep saying it louder and slower until someone brings you some Marigolds.:D

Don't think so Pete. I showed your translation to the 7-Eleven near my hotel and was handed a bottle of rice wine ...... not even good Saki.

Was it slightly yellow? And warm?

Now you really have me worried ...... it did taste a bit salty. I start the course of antibiotics first thing tomorrow.

I guess "cheers" is the wrong word to use.
