birds in non wintry zoo

It was the last day of the year 2013 and I had no better idea than to try out my new Oylmpus OMD EM5 with the R Telyt 180 mm. Mounted on a monopod these are the first attempts to try out and learn more about this combo.

Light was bad inside the cages so shutterspeed was 1/250 sec and aperture ca 4.5-56. and ISO consequently had to be between 800 for the cormoran and for the other 2 at 1600.

Iduna,

Looks like you have a winning combination. The pictures are super. I especially like the Snowy Owl. You captured it just perfectly. They are my favorite bird next to Bald Eagles. Now you have me thinking of a short trip to Montana to photograph them this winter.

Bill,

thanks for your encouraging words. These owls are nice and I admire these ambercolored eyes and their skill to trackdown mice below the snow and hunt them. If the Montana region is on your mind don't hesitate to go there....

Quan,

I am happy you like the results. This combo seems to become my favourite for 2 reasons: th camera is very small and the resolution is very good and if you provide excellent lenses it will exploit all its potential. I'll keep going further here. If you don't want large size prints (beyond A3) than the image quality of the sensor is good enough.

Paul,

thank you so much for your support. It means so much anytime.

Stuart,

thanks. The cormoran was busy and I had to wait for a good position. The camera is so quick with 9 fps and stabilsation is great. But the lens is tricky to keep the DOF in position. You only know when processing if you hit the focus which works here only manually. But you are more skilled than I am on this field where I have to learn much. So I am happy you like it.

Iduna,

Great idea and execution. This is a delightful set and clearly you are on the right track with this set up. Please more...

Ece,

your comment is appreciated very much, thanks. I'll be ambitious enough to churn out more of this combo.

I have been in a rut lately so have posted very little. However I did shoot this a few days ago because I liked the combination of colours. I hope you think the effort was worthwhile!
