I tried to find any other threads on this and could not. Has anyone used this to any extent. Just curious with liveview if it is necessary to use the adapter. I have never used this lens.

Would an adaoter and an R Macro be a better option?

I use an OUFRO instead of the adaptor and the EVF ....... Works great..... Without it is just a very fine compact 90mm

R adapter with 100 apo macro is a super combo too ...... And is a great portrait lens as we'll.

You are spoilt for choice :)

Can I ask which R adapter you are using. The R lens is a lot cheaper alternative than the 90. Do you know if the 90 can be purchased without the goggle adapter.

yes, cheaper, but heavier and bigger as well...

Of course, the R Apo Macro 100 is f. 2.8, the R Macro 90 is f.4

I have experimented with 90mm Macro Elmar on M(240). All works fine. When using the adapter with the lens mounted as directed, the viewfinder will still work, but the evf makes framing much easier and focusing somewhat easier. With slow lenses (f/4), focus peaking is okay, but just okay, and the best way to do it is wide open. Then you can stop down to whatever f/stop you want. You will still need support as the magnification makes handholding difficult.

Having said this, I find it easier to use my one R lens (35-70 Vario Elmar f/4) which has a macro mode than the 90.

I think a DSLR would be better than either but still enjoy experimenting with the M.

Thanks, I have seen the 35-70 Vario Elmar priced very reasonably. I have decided to get the Leica r to M adapter and that will be a challenge it appears.

The latest novoflex r-m adapter is available ex stock and works fine. The leica adapter is now also filtering through. The macro 90 comes only as a kit but you might pick an as new one alone second hand......

The great advantage is it's compact size ....... Particularly compared to the apo 100 ....... Terrific as it is .....

I have found the 90 without the macro adapter but I am leaning toward the R 35-70 f4 Macro and get the R to M adapter. The R zoom is around $1300 mint.
