M Macro

With or without EVF/liveview it is doubtful that Leica will ever release M lens that is not RF coupled

If you need/want one rather than wait I suggest you get a good R macro lens S/H. You have a choice of 60mm f2.8, 100mm f4, 100mm f4 bellows and creme de la creme APO 100mm f2.8. There are few other well regarded 3rd party macro lenses in 90-125mm range.

Despite surge in demand for good R lenses it is still cheaper than any future macro that Leica may release.

I am also looking at expending into macro shots with my M240 and M lenses.

For nearer focusing ability, the M macro adapter can do the trick and allowing me such ability on all focal length of my lenses (from 21mm to 180mm).

For higher magnification of 1:1 from use the bellow II on existing lenses.

This way, one saves the weight of one more lens to carry and buy...

I see, so is it possible to buy an M mount extender and convert say the 90 f/2 to macro use? Forgive my ignorance on the topic of extenders... Thanks everyone for the advice...

It is called: Leica Ourro M Ring 16469Y

Leica stopped production in the 80s, rare to find on ebay and more so to find one in Mint condition. I was lucky but had to pay high price for it.

If you search the web with description, you can find third party reproduction ones for $75, but I'm not certain about the quality.

Yes, but using a 60 mm lens at macro distances will give a pronounced wideangle effect. If you want a more or less natural perspective, a 100 mm or even better 200 mm is preferable. One of the best combo's is the 135 Tele-Elmar on bellows. Watch out for the Original M bellows. Mounting those will result in the disassembly of the bellows to remove them. Use a spacer like the OUFRO! Or an R bellows on an adapter ( or any other brand)

Well said. I intend to detach my mint condition Elmarit M 135mm vII google and mount it to M bellow II via adapter 16598 for macro photography. Either the M to R adapter + R to M adapter or Oufro will be employed for bellow to be mounted onto M240.

To be clear, the goggled macro adapter for the M works only with the 90mm Elmar. The lens is mounted upside down to present a different profile focussing cam and distance scale. You cannot use any other lenses with it.

With the M Typ 240, there are much better options starting with an M extension ring (OUFRO) and of course the R to M adapter which allows you to use anything made for R macro use.

My hope is we will see some new macro options from Leica. They could do worse than start by introducing an updated OUFRO.

I am refering to the 135mm Elmarit M VII (with goggles to emplify RF patch = 90mm lens) and not the googles for macro magnification over the RF window for the 90mm Elmar Macro lens.

16598 is listed as the appropriate screw thread and attachment diameter of the inner lens housing after the 135mm goggles are detached.:D
