Can a Pre Aspherical 35mm Summilux from 1978 (ELC) Version II be safely used on an M-240?

There were some issues with using these on an M-9 if I remember correctly. Something about a protrusion on the back of the lens.

Yes, is a known issue , even quoted in the M 240 manual : the protrusion occurs "randomnly"... only on Canadian items (but by far , most of the Lux preasph are Canadian) : you can find in the forum detailed pics on how it looks anad comparing with your item : filing it, solving the issue, is a simple work... not a DIY, but a good lab can perform it safely : Leica too, and this could be considered if you like to have a global CLA/revision of the lens.

I think I got lucky.

I checked it pretty closely. The shroud doesn't touch anything in the throat.

The lens focus tab turns freely and smooth. No binding or rubbing. It goes all the way just past the infinity mark before it hits the stop in the lens. It also goes all the way the other direction and hits the stop in the lens.

I tried the powder trick twice. Very carefully. Camera throat facing down. No powder transfer to the lens throat anywhere.

I just happened to be in a camera store yesterday and they had gotten a fresh M-4-2 in with the lens attached and I got the lens very inexpensively. Series 7 Hood, caps and the works.

Pristine condition. Wiki shows it a 1978 production run.

When I looked at the pictures you suggested on the forum in an old thread the shroud on mine does not protrude as far as the ones in the pictures.
