Summarit 1.5 not listed in menu

I really wish Leica would enable the user to create their own custom profiles for lenses that are not supported. Best case scenario they would implement in camera profile creation like the new Sony and Fuji cameras... Failing that- simply being able to name a new profile, lets say 'summarit 1.5' and couple the closest matching existing lens profile to it. Then you could have all your non favorite non-M/R lenses named in the list- customised to suit you and your lenses- ready to be selected at leisure. And the lens used would be recorded on the metadata- very handy! Wouldn't that be GREAT?

I don't see why the latter solution couldn't be implemented via firmware?

The 1:1.5/5cm Summarit was built in a version with M-bayonet as well as a version with screw-mount since the times of the M3.The M-version was listed as SOOIA-M:

So this alone would not be a sufficient reason for omitting the lens from the menue for manual lens detection. Leica doesn' list all of their former lenses in the menue, perhaps to avoid a too long list, or perhaps out of "laziness".

Anyway it isn't necessary to apply a special code for this lens. You may well use the setting for the pre-aspherical version of the 50mm Summilux, since the Summilux has the same optical characteristics as the older Summarit, the EXIF will show you "50mm" and if the max. aperture is too high, you might consider that the lens never reached the transmission of its nominal opening. It was a 1:1.8 or even 1:2-lens as far as light-transmission is concerned. So also the setting for an older version of the Summicron would do no harm.

+1

If the unused codes were not "verbotten", Leica users could create their own "personnal" codes for lens identification in the EXIF data and, optionally, batch processing in post! Please consider it, Leica. It does not cost you anything and would make many digital M users happy. And it could be allowed, with the warning that Leica could reclaim any or all of the "unused" codes at any time for any future lens(es).
