Delcredere Posted January 2, 2014 Share #1  Posted January 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having received so much helpful advice from this Forum I hope it of some interest to share some test photos for two R lenses on the M240 taken in Namibia towards the end of last year. I hope my skills are up to uploading the photos!  Using the Novoflex R-M adaptor the two lenses I used, with and without the 2xAPO extension tube were the Vario-Elmarit-R 1:2.8-4.5/28-90 and the Vario-Elmar-R 1:4/80-200. I used a cable and Tripod - Gitzo Travellor (whose head I discovered was inadequate for the weight of the lenses, necessitating much fiddling about to get the subject in frame - likely to be obvious to many members of this Forum). My Novoflex has some play in it but that did not seem to affect my photos. All photos were taken at ISO 200 with shutter speed at Automatic with a photo taken at each end of the range of the lens with and without the extension tube giving 8 photos in all. The subject bustard (sic) obligingly stood still until the last of the shot taken over a few minutes during which the light did not appear to my eye to change much..  Photos L1002562 to L1002569  Without extension  200/80 @ 4  200 L1002569 80 L1002568  90/28 @ 5.6 90 L1002567 28 L1002566  With extension  90/28  28 L1002565  90 L1002564  200/80  80 L1002563  200 L1002562  The 240 Manual menu did not seem to show the 2xAPO extension so I guessed 280 for the 80/200 lens and used 28/90 with and without the extension. (All comments on this post appreciated but particularly guidance on this point...)  I used the Olympus EVFII which I liked using a lot with these lenses - it makes the most of the compact nature of the Leica M system when travelling. But I would note that over the three week trip the black and white screen was not very good in situations where wildlife is merging into the background - and the frequent freezing and lock ups at less than 40C meant a number of shots were lost.  Happy New Year everyone! Advertisement Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Hi Delcredere, Take a look here Novoflex and two long R lenses plus 2xAPO extension tube. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
algrove Posted January 3, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted January 3, 2014 Just as a suggestion, you might get more response from those R lens users who frequent the R section. They would not look for R lens threads under the M lens section. Â Your B&W screen comment about using the EVF.

I had originally posted this on the M240 Forum as I had detected interest there on the LER/LEM Novoflex adaptor but the moderater moved it to this location. I have no complaint about the umpire's decision though! I guess that anyone interested in this narrow point can do a search...
k-hawinkler Posted January 7, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted January 7, 2014 Thanks. Which ball head did you have on the Gitzo Traveler tripod?
Delcredere Posted January 7, 2014 Author Share #5  Posted January 7, 2014 Thanks. Which ball head did you have on the Gitzo Traveler tripod?  GT1550T  Any suggestions as to an alternative on the basis that I will not use any heavier lenses that those cited in my post?  All the best  Mike

I am using the Compact ballhead with B2-mAS clamp on my Gitzo Traveler tripod. Please, let me ask, what do you attach to the ballhead, the lens, adapter, or camera? Delcredere Posted January 7, 2014 Author Share #7 Â Posted January 7, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Mike. I am using the Compact ballhead with B2-mAS clamp on my Gitzo Traveler tripod. Please, let me ask, what do you attach to the ballhead, the lens, adapter, or camera? Â Thank you. I was using the Novoflex LER/LEM adaptor with the M240 camera body directly attached to the ballhead. I now have the Leica R to M adaptor which will allow me to attach the ballhead to the adaptor. I have taken a, perhaps too, quick look at the RRS ballhead you have kindly suggested and it looks like it can only be used with a plate. If so I guess the plate goes onto the Leica body and it is not possible to use this ballhead with the Leica adapter. Am I missing something on the basis of too brief a gander?
