Guest redge Posted December 29, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted December 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an M240 and I'm starting to use its video mode. I want to buy some neutral density filters to reduce shutter speed to ~1/45 in brighter lighting conditions. Â My lenses all take 39mm filters except for a 90mm f2 Summicron which takes 55mm filters. Â Are there Leica primes, other than the Noctilux, which take larger filters? Â Any reason why I shouldn't use a step-up adaptor and standardize to the largest size? Would this create lens hood problems? Given that I'm only interested in neutral density filters, I don't see how they'd affect optical view finder focusing (added after focus), but I'll probably be using live view and the electronic viewfinder anyway. Â I've also had a look at the Lee system (especially Seven5), but it seems more expensive than just buying what I need in individual filters. Has anyone had a problem with adding the weight of the Lee system to a 39mm thread? Â Thanks

mmradman Posted December 29, 2013 Share #2  Posted December 29, 2013 Did you try to research on Leica Wiki - top right of LUF.  If you can be more specific about lenses one can advise filter size, that apart covering current and recent lens:- 39mm typical summicron 35, 50mm, 46mm most lenses from 21 to 90mm 49mm summicron 75mm & 135mm APO 55mm older elmarits 24, and 90mm AA, many R lenses 60mm older elmarit 21mm, summilux 75mm and noctiluxes  There are few odd sizes both metric (E) and Series like 58mm and i think 67 via adapter ring on extra wides etc.
01af Posted December 29, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted December 29, 2013 You mean, for M lenses? Â E67 for Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21 mm Asph E72 for Summilux-M 24 mm Asph (or Series 7) E77 for Super-Elmar-M 18 mm Asph E82 for Summilux-M 21 mm Asph (or Series 8)
algrove Posted December 29, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted December 29, 2013 If you mean any Leica lens then the R 280/2.8 has a 112mm filter. Â The largest threaded M filter size I know of is an E77 for the SEM 18. Although come to think about it for the 21/1.4 one can use either the unthreaded Series VIII (which fits under the lens hood and is held in place by the lens hood) or the threaded E82 filter can be used on the filter holder which replaces the standard lens hood for the 21/1.4. Guest redge Posted December 29, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted December 29, 2013 Yes, I asked the question in the M lenses forum because I mean M lenses. Â Thanks to each of you, this answers my question about filter size. Very helpful.
Tonki-M Posted December 29, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted December 29, 2013 concerning Lee Sev5n, i use it on all of my E46 lens, and it works perfectly well. the added on weight is nothing to Leica superb mount and lens built (i havent used my Sev5n on any of my E39, but it should perform as well). Of course, some of my lens will not work on the Lee system, so choose your lens wisely. I had my interest in 21 lux a while ago, but because the added speed is not of utmost importance, i opted for 21 SEM for its compatibility to my collection of E46 filters (all colors, 3 stop, 6 stop, big stopper, and Lee E46 adapter).
