I will say it again... 28mm Summilux. Not just because I want one desperately, but because it's way over due. Their should have been one since the release of the M9. Now with the release of the M240 being over, its kind of anticlimactic for a new 28mm. So it's time for it to be released.

Please, practical and affordable lenses...

I need a Tri-Elmar 21-24-35 f/4 lens!!!

I prefer MATS.

What is MATS?

Medium-Angle-Tri-Summicron!

My perfect zoom summicron would be 24-35-50, and I wish it could use 49mm filters, but I guess this would have to be a chunk of glass.

A new 35 Summicron (not at a 50-APO price) may make me consider trading in my 35 FLE for something more compact as it's now one of my less-used focal lengths.

I was out with my returned-from-Leica-after-way-too-long-away service & 6-bit coding MATE yesterday, and had forgotten how convenient this lens really is, albeit a bit slow at times. Many people here (me included) are often out with just two focal lengths so I would like to see some Bi-Elmars, not zooms so they are still useable on the M240 and all previous M bodies. Two focal lengths and a maximum aperture of just 2.8 may keep size and complexity and cost under control, and would be fast enough for most circumstances (especially with the newer digital sensors of the Monochrom and M240). ie MABE - Medium Angle Bi-Elmar. Summicrons would be too big. I would have thought that a number of combinations would work:

2.8/28-50 Bi-Elmar-M

(or a 24-50 for mirekti)

2.8/35-50 Bi-Elmar-M

or perhaps even a

2.8/35-75 Bi-Elmar-M

3.4/21-35 Bi-Super-Elmar-M (based on the Konica)

I would snap up such a 28-50 in an instant :)

What is it about the current 35 'cron that makes it not compact? It's already smaller than anything but the 28 Elmarit ASPH. And looking at that image on the internet recently of Leica lenses that a lot of people seem to be keying off (including me, here), if that is a new 35 Summicron it looks bigger than the current one. It looks like it has a bigger filter size and, although it just might not be visible, I wouldn't be surprised if it had no focusing tab. Leica lenses seem to be getting bigger. Maybe it's a response to big burly DSLR users thinking tiny little Leica lenses are too delicate to handle image making at Yellowstone or the kids' soccer games. There's crazy psychology that goes on in Marketing these days and I'm not educated in it.

Of course, a new 35 'cron would be desirable because, in addition to any improvements, it's "new", and that's legitimate. When I bought my 'cron I couldn't believe I had just spent so much money on a brand new, current production lens, that was sixteen years old. :D

Sorry I may not have made myself clear.

More compact than my 35 Summilux FLE, not the current Summicron.

No problem Mark. If I didn't already own a 35 'cron I'd certainly be waiting for Photokina to see what Leica has up their sleeve. That would give me another year to decide. :)
