michael.mu Posted December 22, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted December 22, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Â Does anyone have experience with the 75mm or 90mm Summarit on the M (240)? Some of the recent threads on the 90mm lens and the best lens for dogs got me thinking about getting a telephoto lens for general use (including dog pictures) that would complement a 50mm Summilux. Â I found favorable reviews for both the 75mm and 90mm. Reviewer preference seems to be in more in favor of the 75mm. However the reviews I found were done on the M8 or M9. Just curious about results from M users. Thanks, Mike
Advertisement Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Hi michael.mu, Take a look here 75mm or 90mm Summarit on M (240). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pop Posted December 22, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted December 22, 2013 They're both gorgeous. I'm not likely to carry both at the same occasion. Rather, I bring a set consisting of 24-50-90 or one with 35-75-(and possibly but rarely 135). Â Well, exceptions are possible. Â However, I don't do dogs, so this may not apply to you. I just acquired a beautiful used 90mm Summarit for my M240. I've been shooting around Arizona and Utah (old trading posts, ranches, Monument Valley, Moab, etc.) and am very happy with the combination. As a side note, I find myself using the M240 and 50 Summilux more than the 90mm Summarit. I love both combinations, however. Finally, I've been using the 90mm Summarit on a tripod for the most part (I don't have rock steady hands. Cheers, Bob
paulsydaus Posted December 23, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted December 23, 2013 I know it's more expensive but I'm really considering picking up a 90mm Macro for it's compact size and close focus ability... It's much smaller but you'll loose over a stop in power...

tobey bilek Posted December 23, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted December 23, 2013 The 75 holds sharpness better in close range because of floating elements compared to 90 APO . At distance they are the same. Â I use a 50 1.4 current Lux for the bokeh and the 75 is a very similar formula. Â The 90 macro is a stellar lens close and far and comparable in sharpness.contrast to 75 and 90 at distance. It has a nice deep shade. I purchased a 1" deep shade for the 75 from B&H. B+W or Heliopan, put 49 mm screw in shade in search. Â Nothing wrong with 75 Summarit except speed and separate shade . Save $2000.
asiafish Posted December 23, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted December 23, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought both (used), ended up selling on the 75 and keeping the 90. Both are OUTSTANDING, but I just found that I rarely bothered with the 75 as 50 is my primary FL and while I often find 90 too long, in those situations 50 is usually just right. Bill W Posted December 23, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted December 23, 2013 I have both. It really depends on what you plan to shoot. One thing to think about is that you can both the 50 and 75 frame lines in the viewfinder so you have some perspective there. If only getting one, the 90 might give you more reach if that is what you are looking for.
michael.mu Posted January 10, 2014 Author Share #9 Â Posted January 10, 2014 Thank you all for the feedback and advice. I bought the 90mm Summarit. The focal length is a good complement to my 50mm and the images using the 90 have been excellent.
