We found the LBJ State Park's bison herd right up against a fence on Tuesday. I was able to walk right up and put my camera through the fence mesh and take this shot of a big bull who was about 4 feet from me. Some of the herd, including a young calf, were close enough to touch, but I didn't. Lumix LF1:

Impressive animals and you caught one very nicely in repose I am amazed by the idiots in Yellowstone who try to walk up to these formidable beasts. A local herd that I see that are used to produce "beefalo" on a ranch are pretty habituated to people outside the fence.

If they behave like the other wild Bovines a herd will not be a problem if approached properly by an expert. It are the solitary bulls you must be wary of.
