That's Odd!

It is fairly normal to me. All my lenses can be rotated a little bit further. I think the 28/90 framelines are mechanically the last framelines to be activated (you have to rotate them the furthest) if you keep the lens lock button pressed down. I just thought it's normal that they do it as this is the way the mechanical rangefinder windows work.

When I mount it on my older MP, it can be rotated slightly further than intended and activates the 90 framelines.

That's odd indeed. When rotating slightly too far, it should activate the 50 mm framelines first, and then the 90 mm.

I don't hold down the lens release on mounting; the click tells me it's secure.

I don't know if my other lenses will rotate with it held down, but I won't try it.

It's very confusing.

The problem is easily solved- I won't use that lens on the old MP ;-)

That means the arrest on the MP is worn or sticky.

If it's the 50 frames, then its just a matter of tolerances, the flange selecting frames on your 35mm 1.4 FLE is slightly longer than all of your other lenses is machined, so it just makes it far enough to touch the frame selector arm on the old MP that is just at the edge of it's tolerance.

The difference between not activating 50 frames and activating is about 0.1mm of rotation on the mount for my 35mm 1,4 FLE when over rotating, so very close as well...

The mount can be modified by removing 0.1 to 0.5mm of material from that flange, no problem at all...

Sorry Erik, I've mislead you. On mounting the lens to the correct position the 35 framelines appear, but the lens can be twisted further bringing up the 50 then 90 framelines, whereas with my other 35mm lenses (or this lens on my other M bodies) further rotation isn't possible. I'm just wondering why this one lens on only this one camera body can be over-rotated to bring up subsequent frameline sets.

Out of curiosity I tried various lenses on my MP and while all have a degree of movement none could be said to over rotate.

Pete, one other thing that I think has come up before is to inspect the rebate in the lens flange that the bodies lock fits into. I'm pretty sure it has been reported that metal can spread over the edges of the rebate with wear so not allowing the lock to fit in properly. Combined with batch variation in the locking pin it may be the cause. We all know that some lenses are tighter on different bodies so maybe the locking 'pin' (thing) varies fractionally in size between models or even manufacturing batches. Run a sharp knife around the edge of the lens rebate would be a cure.

Why with only one lens (out of 14?)

And, what does the arrest look like?

Pete

The little protrusion that moves when you press the release button. The problem could also be the indent on the lens flange, or a combination of both. If the lens locks with some wiggling I would leave it as is.
