Iduna Posted December 16, 2013 Share #1  Posted December 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I saw coming home a promising moon showing itself above the trees. I started running for my stuff. When tripod and lens were mounted the moon had risen a but further of course. but it was still surrounded by clouds.  taken with Canon 5D MKII + Telyt 250 mm. It is a stack out of 5 pictures by Combine ZP after processing in LR and layer work in PSE.   Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Hi Iduna, Take a look here moon with halo - an attempt. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Karl G Posted December 17, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted December 17, 2013 Usually they are formed by ice crystals in very high clouds and are really neat to see. I usually bracket the moon but start with a "sunny 16" rule. It's like a beach in bright sun, of course, almost everything else goes way dark. A fast sequence with a HDR composite works. Â Great sky and the halo is beautiful!

pauledell Posted December 17, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted December 17, 2013 Iduna, Â A lovely shot. The Moon has a lot to offer if we bother to look at it. I observe it frequently with 20x binoculars when it's comfortable outside. Â Paul
Iduna Posted December 17, 2013 Author Share #6 Â Posted December 17, 2013 Karl, thank you very much for your nice and very informative comment. I thought about bracketing but the situation changed so quickly it was all in a haste. But I have one dark version I'll try something. Â Quan, Stuart, thank you for looking at this attempt. Â Paul, yes, it is very often worthwhile looking at its different stages. I'll keep an eye on it more often now.
Northwest Wanderer Posted December 18, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted December 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interesting shot Iduna. Clouds create some strange effects with moon shots. Always interesting to view.

platypus Posted December 18, 2013 Share #10 Â Posted December 18, 2013 Iduna, I like this shot, the mood is so calm. As you probably know cirrus clouds of this sort are known as mackerel sky because they resemble fish scales, they do indeed make a very pretty setting for the moon.
