Einst_Stein Posted December 15, 2013 Share #21  Posted December 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was thinking using the rangefinder to measure the distance between the object and me, make a mental note of it (whether be it in m or ft), then sent the corresponding distance digits against the centre triangle on the lens  Any external, un-coupled, uncalibratable range finder would not work satisfiable, including your external range finder, the Novoflex-adapter + Nex, and the laser rangefinder as suggested by the other two posters. Even if you know exactly the distance with cm precision, the lens does not provide you with enough accuracy to match that distance. You'll need a 'feedback" to confirm it.  This is why I think it requires a precise, calibratable and configurable digital controlled focusing coupler between the lens and the M9 camera.  In short, you not only need to know the precise focusing distance, you also need a method to set and your lens with confirmation with respect to your camera, to get the focusing right.  Leica's Visoflex is a good focusing confirmation device, but the flange distance is too long for R.
