Advertisement Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Hi Paul J, Take a look here 50mm Summicron APO. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bill W Posted January 21, 2014 Share #22 Â Posted January 21, 2014 All of the "lottery winners"! If Leica did a general recall of this lens, would you send yours in or just keep on going. Just curious. I guess there is the chance that it could come back and not be the lens you sent in.
Jay B Posted January 21, 2014 Share #23 Â Posted January 21, 2014 At this point, I really don't know what I would do. I suspect I'd make every attempt to have my Leica Rep get me a new version to test out alongside my existing one, then decide.
platypus Posted January 22, 2014 Share #24 Â Posted January 22, 2014 I really don't think I would send mine in, under any circumstances. I use it only on the MM and since putting a medium red filter on it I have not had a single flare issue. I am so besotted with this lens that I don't think I would trust it's health and wellbeing to the big, dark, bottomless pit of silence that is Leica on the subject of this flare anomaly. algrove Posted January 22, 2014 Share #25 Â Posted January 22, 2014 Agree. Â I use mine on the MM and also the M240. Seldom shoot flare inducing images on purpose. Love the contrast it gives and would hate to loose any of that by sending it in. Â Would I send this example into Leica Solms? Probably not based on earlier lens experiences with them and the fact that I like what I have.
koala54 Posted January 22, 2014 Share #26 Â Posted January 22, 2014 Still on wait list, no time soon in getting one. Some lucky bugger got two of them, and original ones! Who knows if the new corrected ones would perform like the pre corrected version. If I have one now, it is staying on my M. If I have two, both will stay firmly on my Ms.

That pretty well sums it up Dee. The bottomless pit of silence. I use mine on both the MM and M. I have tried to create the issue but only got flare when on would expect it. I guess a lot of us are "besotted" with the lens. I am not up to speed with the term besotted.
platypus Posted January 22, 2014 Share #28 Â Posted January 22, 2014 Bill, I should have said that I am so strongly infatuated with the lens as it is that I wouldn't part with it for quids, who knows what diabolic changes are currently being perpetrated on those lenses that are returned to Solms by their trusting owners. Bill W Posted January 23, 2014 Share #31 Â Posted January 23, 2014 In an email discussion with a well know Leica dealer I was told that eventually every 50 APO would need to be "repaired/updated" which made me wonder is there something in them that would eventually fail??? Not likely but I will keep hold of mine till Leica either says you have till a certain date to have yours updated or else. I would almost think that if you had an original that did not need updating it would be rare but who knows.
platypus Posted January 23, 2014 Share #32 Â Posted January 23, 2014 I know what a squid is, but a quid. Â Apologies for being unnecessarily cryptic, it is a somewhat antiquated word and reveals my age.
algrove Posted January 24, 2014 Share #33  Posted January 24, 2014 Quid = £1 (GBP)  I knew that, but the way it was worded made me wonder if Dee meant pounds since whenever I have heard the term it is usually a quid, but never heard it pluralized before. leica5 Posted January 24, 2014 Share #36 Â Posted January 24, 2014 count me in as well for good copy. I can't get it to flare even pointing at sun at F16 with leica filter on,,yes it has silver ring inside and I purchased it at leica store in DC in 3/2013

The term 'quids in' is still in common use in England, even with my sons.  As in 'I'm quids in' = I am happy, or made a profit etc. Or, in my case, 'I have a Leica camera that doesn't need to go to Solms every time some electronic gismo stops working..' :-)  Gerry

I can't get it to flare even pointing at sun at F16 with leica filter on,,yes it has silver ring inside and I purchased it at leica store in DC in 3/2013 Â The flare in question isn't that kind of 'sun directly in the frame' flare. It'll likely show up in fairly average light, more often when the source of light (a window or overcast sky) is slightly out of frame, and manifests itself as a lower contrast area in the centre of the shot. RickLeica's examples here illustrate the phenomenon well.

helged Posted January 25, 2014 Share #40 Â Posted January 25, 2014 In an email discussion with a well know Leica dealer I was told that eventually every 50 APO would need to be "repaired/updated".... Â Any knowledge how recalling of a Leica product has been/will be done? It should be simple for those of us that have registered our Leica bodies/lenses on leica.com and/or read this forum on a fairly regular basis. But what about owners that have 2nd hand copies of the lens and don't spend their time on a forum (here)? Likely not too many with 2nd hand copies around, but virtually certain more than nil. Just wonder...
