I know there were issues with this lens and some needed repair. My question is does anyone know whether production has restarted so that deliveries will follow? I have one on order but obviously have to wait until they sort things out. Thanks.

I literally just posted elsewhere on the forum and am wondering the same thing. I don't understand why Leica has been so quiet on this. Are new builds going to suffer the same issue? Are new builds occurring? Can I place an order, or what?

I am still waiting well over year for this lens and I am 4th in the queue at my dealers! The last news I heard was that orders are now being quoted for 24 months delivery. I think they have gone to the bottom of the production list and are waiting to restart production in the new factory. But would be nice to know from Leica exactly what is the scenario.

I heard from a Leica dealer the next delivery might be in mid-2014!

Mid 2014 sounds good compared to 24 months. That's the theory of relativity at work.

Will that mean the new run of lenses be the 'second generation'?

Then the first generation could become a collectible with its better flare resistance under f/16 eventually. Nobody wants to sell me his paperweight here? :D

I'm still waiting for mine since around July which I know isn't as long as some folk here... Anyway, I'm also wondering how many (what proportion of) lenses so far delivered have this issue? I suppose there's no way of knowing... I wonder if I'll get mine in 2014?

recent reports suggest that Leica seem to think the problems are temporary and being worked on with production starting again soon. Who could tell the actual truth.

If it were true and production did cease, those with a good copy have effectively won the lottery.

I really want one and hope its sorted

Had mine 'fixed' by Leica (2 months away) and it is awesome. Lethally sharp across the whole frame at all f stops. Simply changing the f stop alters the DOF & nothing else. The 3D effect in reasonable light is amazing. Not a portrait lens as you see every flaw on every flaw, the ZM Sonnar using EVF (to negate the focus shift) is better for that. The Noctilux 0.95 is optically not as good as the Apo 50 but does allow shooting in lower light & paints a more artistic picture.

I just took mine on a trip to the Caribbean.

Although it has severe flare problems, I have not yet sent it in for correction.

I took another lens "in case," but this one handled the glare and intense light flawlessly.

It never left my camera.

I'm off to Dubai and Australia February-April, and this will be the only lens I take.

I will send it in for correction when I return.

It is indeed superb, and it is a miracle that it is so compact.
